So, in this day and age, why hasn't anyone published this info yet?

So, I see some interesting PS1 homebrew projects popping around, and since the console is more than 20 years old at this point, why hasn't anyone come around a method to make bootable PS1 CDR discs yet? I mean, I suppose you would need to have a CD press but it should still be doable, since there are unlicensed PS1 discs (Gameshark?)

Excellent question, and one I have wondered about as well. Though at this point, the novelty of a self booting CD-R wouldn't get as much attention as a flash memory replacement for aging PlayStation CD-ROM drives.

Does no one remember the Sony busts when the self booting Hd loader came out? They sued everyone in the world where they legally could for using copyrighted development libraries to make those disc and won.

Wasn't that long ago, 10-12 years maybe.
A team developed the HD Loader for the ps2, a disc that would boot on stock system and allow ripping and playback capabilities of a hard drive through the ps2 bay with network adapter. Anyone who sold it was immediately sued in a federal court for violation of the digital millennium copyright act, using Sony copyright code to develop an illegal product to circumvent their devices.

You answered your own question considering the makers of those unlicensed discs do have access to a CD press.

Googling "ps1 wobble" will bring up info about it.

I wonder if Sony would care about the PS1 and PS2 now.
Although their financial situation is desperate, so I wouldn't be surprised.

There's been extensive research into this many years ago. People tried everything, from modified cd burner firmwares to redirecting the laser to an area of the disk that's easier to fake the wobble on. Nothing practical came out of it. To this day you need a CD press to create self booting PSX (and PS2) disks.
There are other methods though; You can simply ask the MECHACON to disable the lockout and it will obey ;)

I've had a self-booting homebrew disc ages ago, I've played NES games on a PS1 once. Didn't like it. I'd rather play PS1 games on a PS1, PS2 games on PS2. It was only until the Wii era that multi-use consoles were satisfactory to use.
