Sega megadrive genesis video issue

    As mentioned above. Leave it on for a good hour or so, then switch it off and on. If it suddenly works, then its 100% the capacitors that have failed. It might seems like a big job, but if you've replaced capacitors before, then it should be easy. Time consuming, but relatively easy.

    nope that's a marking which is etched into a few of them
    I just bought them separately Oh well at least they will all be the right volts

    Recapped the board tonight. Visuals only slightly better but no improvement really :( looks like I'm gonna need a new console

    You need vram ic chips i had a console with the same fault.
    IC 9 IC10 needs to be replace.
    then the console will be working again.

    Can you provide a pic of what it looks like now?

    Leave the console on for about 15min. Then place a finger on all the chips. Do any seem particularly hot? Not warm, hot

    A couple years ago I had a customer come in with a SEGA Genesis VA3 unit which had a very similar fault. It was rusted traces on the VRAM bus. The source of the rusting was a leaking capacitor.

    I had to replace the capacitor and mend the broken trace. Of course a bad VRAM chip would also cause the bad picture. But it's a lot easier for it to be a broken trace than be a bad VRAM chip.

    If you download a sega service manual ics are numbered there.
    under the heat sink the ram chips are.
