Trying to assess the value of some of my dev items... thank you. Trying to assess the value of some of my dev items... thank you! Last item/s (there are two Ultra64 boards) I am trying to evaluate, once again thank you very much! (I can be more precise in the description if it is necessary to get a proper evaluation)
Excuse me whilst I wipe the drool from my chin! If you do decide to sell the loose U64 board (I already have 3 host Indys) and the joybus board as a package then I'd be 110% interested in buying them from you. You've already commented in my U64 wanted thread on the SGI forums. Beautiful set up you have there and if they were mine I'd *never* sell them! Sorry for derailing the thread a little.
Looks like the system comes without the syshdd. What cpu has the indy? Depending on that i think you can get round about 500-600€ maybe more when the system is up and running. Anyway im interested on the joyboard. Let me know if i can make you an offer for that. regards Chris
Very nice setup, like mine, and the joybus is definitively the plus. Il will be great to evaluate the complete package to know if you can start the system and make some screenshoot of installed software, Irix (5.3 or 6.2), and if the board is detected correctly (you need SOG LCD or CRT to start normally the Indy of course). It will be also easy to launch some 3D demo that are integrated to the SDK with the RCA input of the Indy. I don't see if it's the HDD or a Floptical disk inside the Indy. I think the CPU is a R4400 200 or 175mhz. It's a 1995/96 system because you have a Sony PSU. Are the two dev board the same revision (the classic 2.0) ?
A very similar setup just sold in the marketplace if you want a recent sale comparison. It included DTL H2010, cd-emulator and controller but lacked the video break out cable. Should give you a good reference point. Full disclosure I purchased that one so I thought it was a fair price I've been quoted $400 for one that I passed on. I think anywhere from $250-$350 based on the market. I could see $400 for a tested card with software to use with it.
I sold one lot recently at a £40 loss to pay for some other items, but mine had the DTL-H2010 drive box, AV cable and controller for £120 shipped within the UK, international shipping extra. I should point out however mine was untested, no idea if it worked or not, but I had everything bar the PC with ISA slots to make full use of it.
Hello everyone, thank you for your feedback, let me give some more details on the system. The system is a R4400 200MHz and it does have a HDD; the complete software system is installed, including OS (Irix 5.3), the necessary overlays, SGI compilers and the latest Nintendo SDK; moreover I am installing a number of period correct software that was used at the time to create N64 games, such as Softimage|3D and Alias PowerAnimator. Not only the unit has been tested to function, you can see on Youtube a video of the system running some demos and games in my living room, here is the address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyE9PGTRirI The system was originally at Acclaim and apparently it was one of the machines used to create the first Turok game, as stated by documents provided by the previous owner: StarCaine. This is one of the very first Ultra64 systems to get out of a development studio. Yes the two dev boards are both version 2.0 Thank you again for your comments. Jollyroger Hello there, thank you very much for your comments and evaluation. I do have the correct SDK and ages ago I was the one who posted a couple of videos of the card running here on AssemblerGames, which was the first time a video of the ARC1A was posted on the Internet; both cards work perfectly. Cheers, Jollyroger Thank you very much for your comments, I will check the marketplace post to see the price of the most recent sales. Thanks again, Jollyroger
Thank you very much for sharing the history of your Ultra64 system, I always find it nice to know the history behind any development hardware so this is very much appreciated. The fact that I put many hours into the original Turok back in '97 merely adds to the desirability of a system which helped create the game! I've watched your youtube video many times before today and read all the comments on the video too. A couple of years ago you publicly stated in those comments that you weren't willing to sell the U64 so I'm just wondering whether that way of thinking has changed now or whether you're simply wanting to gauge opinion on what the system is worth, without actually wanting to sell it.
I am not a true collector, I only gathered some of the systems I used to work on when I was in the games industry, for sentimental value. For this reason I am not inclined to sell any of the items I own, but after so many years I wanted to understand what these systems/parts might be worth. If I ever decide to sell anything I will post in the marketplace forum. Cheers, Jollyroger
It's a great piece of history. I have also watched your video many times Maybe you can help me to launch original rom (games that i owned of course) on the system, with a special headers or something like that I always wanted to know if you have a command to simulate the N64 joypad (I don't have the joybus adapter) with key's of the keyboard....
The procedure to run games on the system is very easy, using the standard SDK rom loading tool. The retail ROMs boot code doesn't work on the U64 board, so it needs to be replaced with the SDK boot code; several games work perfectly after this simple operation, others need a bit more work to replace the boot code appropriately. As you can see from the video I routed the U64 board's video and audio output into the VINO video input connectors, so I can play the games in a window on the Irix desktop, I like that a lot Jollyroger
Yeah, with gload I presume. The SDk documention is so big that it's difficult to find the way to do some basic things when you are a rooky. I have only prepared an Indy with Irix 5.3 and IDO, and just the OS 2.0K. It was the minimum to get the card working, but I know it's only a small part of the complete package. It was also a pain to find the right folder and command to load a compile tech demo from the SDK. I have made the same thing for the VINO input, with a Nintendo S-video cable. It's the better way if you don't have a TV near from the Indy . It will be interesting to speak about that in a dedicated discussion in the Nintendo dev forum I think, I will create a topic. It will also help people to get their board working. I'm a SGI collector so it was easy to make a system for the board, but it's more difficult for me to get the software working. I really want to know the way to make this SDK boot code.
Excellent, I will try to participate to the thread in the Nintendo dev forum. BTW I am also a very keen SGI user, "collector" and ex employee...
i love the Partner setup because its based on win , very easy to use. But the indy is also very cool. But only with the partner the 64dd devkit is possible?
Yeah, the 64DD is only with partner. But the partner is existing for SGI Indy and O2 via a dedicated Ethernet box. I've only see one on ebay some years ago. That's very interesting . Are you a member of Nekochan forum ?
Thank you very much for the information. I have to admit that being a SGI fan I like the SGI setup an order of magnitude more than the following setups, but obviously the SGI setup has several limitations. Yes I am also a member of Nekochan, although I don't write much on either forum.
Is it possible to get some detailed pics from the joyboard. Or have someone the pinout? I have the connectors but not the board.
I'm not sure whether it's OK to post links to other forums here so if it's not OK then please would a moderator edit this post to remove the link. There are quite detailed pics of the joybus board in this thread. http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16726753 The forum user called canavan works in Cologne and has said it's OK for people to spend an afternoon examining his board with a view to reverse engineering and potentially creating a clone of it. I noticed that you are also in Germany, maybe if you are near Cologne you could get a first hand look at one by visiting him.
