Hello there! I've storing a copy of Windows XP SP1 "For distribution with a new MDG PC only" a long time (since 2002), and maybe now I should start selling it. Here's some pics of it: It contains the disc and the packaging never opened, but not the serial code (it's currently glued on my old PC). How much should it worth? Thanks!
^^ LOL! ... seriously, not a lot... particularly if the UNUSED/unactivated serial code isn't with the disk, written down EXACTLY! ... an m$ lover may like? it counts as an 'item'....(sealed os's disks are hard to come by, i'd like to see a sealed copy of WB 3.1 nowadays...came as floppy disks!)
^^ that GUESS is as good as the rest! ... wasn't a slate but an honest observation! ... most folks are too stingy to buy os (me included, not an m$ fan/BLOAT) so rip one instead! .. hell, the REAL value could be determined if that disk and computer it was paired with was sold as an item?! .. i was given an HP dcm5800 and it's value is DESTROYED (in a monetised sense) because it didn't come with it's OEM disk...sealed or otherwise! ... @ lolzvid. all the best to a sale!
Can Windows XP installations still be authenticated now that Microsoft has officially pulled support (at least in the USA anyways)?
Product activation will continue indefinitely for genuine Windows XP licenses. Only the developement of new Windows XP updates and the availability of any support will cease after April 8, 2014. From Technet
I've got one of these too that was bundled with a dell PC. Never thought it would be worth my while to sell. Who knows, maybe in 20 years it will be worth more? Probably not though...
It is a recovery CD. It will only activate on the same model PC it was sold with. It is possible that it may not even install on other hardware.
Some "recovery" CDs were really just rebranded retail discs. Some others could be "reverted" to retail (by rebuilding the image and burning a new CD - legal gray area I think?). The important bit for actually using the OS is the serial - just use it with a retail image you got off the 'net. From a (non-hardcore) collector's point of view I wouldn't see much point in buying OEM discs either - I'd probably rather get a nice retail package to put on my shelf.
