Getting a +5v from the power supply is fine. I've only seen Sanyo drives requiring power from elsewhere (and I have no idea why that would even make a difference).
You don't need to file down the ribbons but you do need to make sure that they align up right and are properly pushed in.

The laser should be looking for a disc for a second or two normally. I think you just have them connected wrong.

K thanks your help. I'll get it sorted tomorrow.

Next day adventure continues...so i decided to bridge 2 points on the back of the chip...and the disc started to spin. It was recognized as a audio cd...I only have 1 backup game and no originals to test.

So ill get a original game and burn some more backups to try..least it spins now.

You might want to post some better resolution pics of the chip. They might have some traces broken or some other retarded setup.

All right..just back from a friends house. He gave me a vitrual boy 2 game to test. It boots fine. I need to burn a good copy of a game to try. I believe it is working now though..

I will take some pics though and post them.

Awesome it works..just booted a back up of sega saturn atari collection.

I guess the bridge on the back of the chip did it..probabaly suppose to have a cap or resistor in that spot..looks like something should have been there..

First sega saturn modchip install..easieast mod ever but took me all night and couple hours this morning to get it right..

Druid II thanks again for your help..I read alot of posts on this and your name/post's where in all of them...

I don't even see any bridge points on that modchip.

Also from that picture it looks like your power cord is touching both 5v and 9v, you might want to resolder it so that can't happen, because it may fry the chip.
