    I'd say after 20 years those proprietary technologies tend to forgotten.
    Of coz if there's someone with billions of dollars to waste and don't think for a sec to drop the cash to re-create the technology... Know anyone might fit the bill? :p

    I don't think it'd be in the realm of billions. Millions or less.

    Years ago i heard a legend about some software protection company, that offered a prize for copying their copy-protected CDs, and a hacker who won this prize using a homemade optical system and a homemade wooden disc a with a thin metal coating (that was before CDRs) without any software whatsoever. So re-creating existing technology is not always the easiest way around.

    I'd like to see a homemade working Saturn System Disc. It would be an interesting oddity for sure. Never heard of anything like a homemade CD before.
