I voted for Model 1 because:

• very good steering cross (maybe best of all time)
• "feels" much more stable (and it is very stable of course)
• looks better than the "cheap-plastic"-looking Model 2
• Its getting a Bonus-Point because it was shipped with the better looking Model-1-Saturn ;-):dance:

I got my Saturn only 1 Month after Release in Europe so it was shipped with Model-1-Controller. Some Years later i played on a Model-2-System and i was shocked about the cheap-look...
But just like alphagamer said: Its a question of taste (and maybe memories)

 

I've only used the second one. Was the first one released in Europe?

The first one looks sturdier. Although, someone made a controller to the DC which looked like the second model, did anyone else try them? They were pretty good for fighting games.

 

the controllers shipped with the 1st version treamcast (hongkong portable dreamcast) were like the model2 saturn controller.

 

Model 2 by far. Better D-pad (that doesn't leave a print in your thumb ),
better XYZ buttons, far better triggers.

 

That's the one. Mine had a "square" orange swirl though, but it was named Treamcast. They were pretty good.

 

I love model 2 controllers. The D - pad feels much more responsive and all the buttons click when you push them.

 

I like both, but the second one is the best. less pain on the old thumbs for long plays on Street Fighter Zero 2.
That why I use them on my SuperGun.

The orignal pad has me crippled way before the later stages.

 

#2.. I have both but the smaller one feels and plays much better to me.
Yakumo is right though, the smaller one technically is the original.

 

I had the first model at first and it's the one I have with my current Saturn- no problems. Maybe the shoulders lack a bit of spring but I won't fight someone to have a Model 2 over a model 1 in a bout of Bomberman

 

Definitely model 2. It's just the way a controller ought to be, that's why everybody is still looking for them (ever saw a N64-style USB/PS2/Supergun-controller? I didn't! But Saturn-style ones are highly wanted, esp. the Supergun and USB ones).

When I bought my first Saturn, the only things that came with it were Hardcore 4x4 (aka Deka 4-ku), Cyberia and a model 1-controller. It's a miracle that I didn't sell it right away if I think about it afterwards :lol:

 

#2 easy.

 

Depends on the game, just like with the fatass Xbox controller. I like goofy fucking looking things though so naturally #1 is cool.

 

Number 2, of course.

 

What sort of sadomasochistic fool would really prefer the horrid original western joypad over the heavenly Japanese pad? I mean even Sega later realised it was more of a dog then Paris Hilton and replaced it with the Yoko Minamino like pad.

It was like someone said, we need to westernise the Joypad, lets change nearly everything and they did... the dpad is uncomfortable; the buttons feel like they are in the wrong place, the X, Y, Z buttons are a pain to push quickly; the shoulder buttons feel like they are pre broken and it feels like a toy that McMurders would give away with it's unhappy meal. I've binned these joypads if I've bought a console as they only give pain and unhappiness.

 

The western controller was their way of winning over all the Jaguar users =)
