I just got another v64 so would like to try this out on it. What's the most recent version? I can't find a DL link anywhere that's not dead. Thanks.
Source even, awesome. Thanks. Compiles fine so I'll flash a chip and give it a go. I thought there was a version that supported FAT or is that just tall tales? I see there's code to write to the drive in there. Is this just part of the library used or was something planned but never implemented?
It looks like we lost a few posts in this thread. At any rate I'm still looking for the FAT version of this BIOS. Although from what I've read FAT support is very buggy. I'd like to see for myself though. While waiting for my EEPROMs to arrive I wrote an image builder for the TOC file system. So you just put the ROMs in a folder run a shell script and and it makes an image and writes it to the HDD. I added long filename support to the image builder and it should only require minor changes to the BIOS to add it there. I also ordered a 2 meg EEPROM to try a dual BIOS setup. My idea is to have the CD and HDD both set to master and just switch power between them using the same 6 pole switch I use to switch banks on the EEPROM. Anyone have experience with this?
The EEPROMs arrived and I compiled and burnt the BIOS. It's rough but it boots and loads games. Should be easy enough to polish up. The compiled code needs to be converted into a bios file with a special executable. Is there source for this or does anyone know how it works? It says it's for "32k" files which the BIOS already is and I could easily see it growing much larger just adding basic error checking and stuff.
Dont use power to switch been eeproms, use the CE line to disable one and enable the other. Basically put a pull up resistor on both lines and a switch to ground to enable them. If talking about using the higher address lines of a larger chip to switch, same thing put resistor on the end address line(s) and switch like that.
Yeah. I went with a 2 megabit EEPROM and A17 to bank switch. I'm switching drives using power. I'll try changing that to master/slave if I ever add something that could use the CD.
Hi, Do you have a picture of the setup please? I am interested in setting a dual bios on my V64. Thanks.
I'm getting on a flight in a few hours and will be out of town for two weeks but I'll take some pictures when I get back.
Great thanks. I have a rough idea of the picture, just one point I am not sure about. Did you lift the pin (A17) away from the socket and solder to a switch? Or did you leave the pin inside the socket and then solder to a switch? Thanks.
I lifted the pin. Well, I didn't actually life the pin. I added another socket and wired to that. Electrically the same but now I can easily pull out the chip and reprogram it.
i just pick up v64 junior today i have all 3 carts included in set, i buy laptop with paralel port instal win xp, and what i must to do now to play n64 games ? thanks
