You mean atx pin9? Vga pin9 is NC for video AFAIK.
How do you power it through the Hanzo?

 

Pin 9 on the VGA male connector on the Hanzo.
(Supplies 5v)

I wanted to keep all the lines connected (the 12v is tucked in there) incase I ever had a reason to stick the GDROM back in there.

 

Well you needed four then, not ten-ish. That said, I still think it's very clean, just a bit bulky. In contrast, mine is hackish, but has minimal footprint.

Not sure if it is on the new Hanzo, but on the original ones yes, +5V is supplied to pin 9 by default.
(to support monitors that don't power there own eeprom or something. EDID)

It was causing issues with my VGA to HDMI converter, but I bought a new one & it powers it via pin 9, so no USB cable needed

That's the info I was supplied by the creator, breaking off pin 9 is simpler.

No I just bought a new adaptor, that's powers via pin 9. So I don't need to use the supplied usb cable.

The maker of Hanzo suggested I just cut the trace if I didn't need the 5v, I ended up needing it so I never cut the trace.

 

I'm shopping for a Pico PSU for my upcoming gdemu DC build. I see that there are 160w and 80w versions on eBay. A few people in this thread have mentioned wanting to use the 80w, but I can't find anyone who has actually installed one, unless I've overlooked a post.

Can anyone please confirm that:
1. 80w Pico PSU is sufficient to power a gdemu DC
2. If so, does it run significantly cooler than the 160w version?

Edit: Nevermind, after reading the thread, it seems like even a 60w Pico would do the job.

 

The DC with gdrom uses around 30W, I can't remember exactly. It will be even less with the gdemu. The smallest picoPSU you can find will be perfect.

My 80-watt Pico arrived today and I used parts from a bad DC PSU to wire it. Works great powered by a nice 12V/2A brick. Now to wait for my gdemu to arrive.

 

Just to make sure this pin out is the same for a 100w PSU.

I have a 100 one that I brought awhile ago - finally doing this mod tomorrow and just wanted to be safe before I do so -

We'll post above can be ignored, went with it as I thought and its working lovely with my GDemu board.

Learnt a few lessons, will redo this mod (probably on another Dreamcast with another psu) and make it neater.

I need to shorten the 2 wires going to the power input.

 

Here's a Franken-Dreamcast composed of: VA0 case, VA0 heatsinks, VA1 motherboard, VA1 fan (which I'll swap out with a metal VA0 fan once I work that out), and VA1 controller sub-board. Word of warning, never switch VA0 with VA1 controller boards or you'll fry the mobo.

I also installed the 80-watt Pico PSU and used the nifty overpriced 3D-printed pico power jack mount. It's powered by a 12V/2A brick. The next step will be to recap it and add some internal voltmeters for a little flair once the gdemu arrives.


GD-ROM is for testing. The fan is also temporary until I get the metal VA1 back in. I also installed a rechargeable LIR-2032 battery.



The connectors were taken from a dead DC PSU, making the PicoPSU modular. The ferrite doesn't matter, but I have a box of them to get through before I die.

I am going to order my PicoPSU soon so I can start with modding my Dreamcast

 

So how is it hooked up? S-Vidio or Scart or what? Guessing that TV didn't do VGA although I am sure a few did. So guess it is something like a trinitron?

 

It's a Sony PVM-2030 so I used Scart RGB. I have a Hanzo VGA setup, but I'll need to add a sync combiner in order to get VGA in to this particular PVM. I plan on making one in the future.
