Looking for name of a really Old Benchmark Software

Is there any website that has an archive of really old benchmark software? Even earlier than 3DMark. I remember this benchmark supporting software/Glide and Direct3D.

I seem to remember this benchmark program that (I think) was released in the Pentium 1 era with actual advertisements for Max Payne in one of the sections of it's benchmark. I seem to remember a section that is similar to Mechwarrior (A Futuristic setting with a mech walking in a maze setting) and another section in which an autoscrolling in a skyscraper setting with Max Payne advertisements. I don't remember the name of the program at all.....

I remember that old Max Payne demo, I think it was just an earlier version of 3dmark (it may have been called something else at the time?). The demo team who did Second Reality ended up founding both Futuremark (3dmark series), and Remedy (Max Payne series), as well as doing that Final Reality demo. So it was normal for there to be some co-operation between the teams, which is why Max Payne was in 3dmark.

The Max Payne thing was in 3DMark 2001, IIRC.

When I read "really old benchmark software", this is what I thought of:

Nah, I made sure and watched fast forwarded through some videos earlier to make sure I name the right one. 3DMark used the actual MP engine, but used it to show a recreationf of the Matrix "lobby scene". No mention of Max Payne in there, but really fun to watch nevertheless.

Would you have a link for the recreation of the Matrix "Lobby Scene?" I would love to see it, if that's at all possible.

Your memory was a little off there... but not bad!

    1993 Pentium processor released.
1996 Remedy Entertainment come up with concept for third person action game that later became Max Payne.
    1997 Pentium II processor released.
    1997 MAX-FX engine development started.
1997 Final Reality 1.01 released (the only version made) by Remedy Entertainment.
1998 Max Payne trailer featuring an early beta shown at E3, slating a Summer 1999 release.
    1998 3DMark99 released.
1999 Last Intel P5 processor released in January.
2000 Major revamp on Max Payne.
    2001 Max Payne released.

3DMark99 uses Remedy's MAX-FX engine, as does Max Payne. Final Reality, which came out before 3DMark99, was going to - but I believe it used an alternate engine instead in the end. Incidentally, Final Reality was made for DirectX 5 and not recommended for DirectX 6. Despite being bundled with several graphics cards and on major computing magazine cover discs, it was discontinued within a year.

I can't say I remember anything about Max Payne in Final Reality. Did you manage to find it in there?

Run 3DMark 2001 or watch a video on YouTube.

It's not really a demo of Max Payne, but more like an advertisement / poster of Max Payne in one of the sections of the Demo/Benchmark. It's in the skyscraper before the final 3D Logo of Final Reality.

Still works in Windows 7.... Not bad.... :p
