... through the controller? Seeing that the official N64 rumble pack requires 2xAAA batteries. Each battery is 1.5volts. So, it uses 3 volts. How many Amps I am not so sure.

My question is, has anybody done a mod where they hooked up a wire from the controller onto the rumble pack to get continuous power and not rely on batteries?

I don't really remember what's in the N64, but I think batteries are used because you'd fry something on board as there will not be enough power the stuff, at least not when all controllers are functioning at the same time.... don't know... the 1 wire mod is perfectly doable, I know no info about it and have no vibration thing to get that info.

The fact that it uses AAA batteries shows there's not much current required.

Yes the mod has been done. Why anyone would do it, I don't know. I am used to the weight WITH batteries. And there's such thing as this:

    Try the rechargeable alkalines ;-)

Yes I think I recall 'N64 Magazine' here in the UK, had a circuit diagram showing how to modify the rumble pak.

just buy a Gamester LX4 Tremor Rumble Pak. It works without batteries and the rumble effect is even a bit stronger than in Nintendo's pak.

There is also a LX4 Tremor Controller Pak available - which has rumble and memory.

Whilst I wouldn't recommend doing this mod due to the PSU not being intended for it, I think saying it will blow up is a bit over the top. Most likely, the power drain would be too much and cause the game to crash.

As I said before, rechargeable batteries FTW!!

Why does it say on the manuals not to use those?
