    Hi Guys!

I just installed a MM3 US modchip in my posone, got it from ebay months ago... I did test the console, it boots originals but not backups...CD-Rs and a gold die backups were tested and failed to boot... I suspect the laser requires some tweaking, but I am not sure about the correct reading.... can u help?!

    thnx...

What type of CD-Rs are you using?
The other way is to follow a POT tweaking guide, by getting a multimeter and carefully adjusting the laser until you get the right setting. If you're not sure how to do it, it's best to go to an electronics or computer repair place.

thnx 4 the advice! I know how to use a multimeter, it is just that I am not sure about the correct reading... usually, these were done before and people found ideal values...I am asking about the correct reading...

    thnx

Are you sure that it's not the chip the problem?

They tried to convince me that the chip was replaced or was reprogrammed...I doubt it :D Are you aware of the reading?!

I'm sure he is but SCPH-10x PS1s tend to be very good with their lasers and what is FAR FAR FAR more likely is a bad chip or a faulty install than the laser being incapable of reading backups and needing a tune.

faulty install...was told that also! I wonder about the delay between getting a response here and getting the answer in a telepathic way!

"the correct reading" varies between each laser unit. Which is why no one is give you "the reading", but instead giving you the far more likely cause.

Because there's no such thing as a correct reading on a multimeter, as that's not the way to set up a laser diode ;)

I'd try various backups on various CD-Rs, some units are picky, and I'd certainly check the chip as well. Try other region pressed discs too, as Bad mentioned.

More information will be required if you need in depth answers.

for both the GC and the X360, there are suggested values in ohm for reliable DVD-Rs reading... I am sure there must be a suggested value for the psone also... I got the mm3 chip from eurasia months ago, and I think they are a reliable source. The soldering seems to be OK, I did mod several PS2 slims with modbo... So, I think I have some soldering experience.... shall I get a programmer for my mm3? Can you suggest one?! I do have a 2nd MM3, might try that one also in the future...

    thnx

If you want to program some mm3's check out this programmer (http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3141). I've used it for about 2 months and it worked great, i upgraded to a GQ-4X so i dont use it anymore.
