I need to play import (Taiko no Tatsujin JP) games on my UK PSTWO. Preferably someone in the UK as i would like to have it this week if possible.
Maybe i should of made it more clear that i need some sort of boot disk such as swap magic or a chip (pref solderless).
ESR comes with the FreeMCBoot package that installs to a memory card; it allows you to patch a disc image, burn it to a DVD and play it like you have a modchip. Personally I've never gotten it to work but plenty of others have. I'm sure there is someone in the UK that would be happy to install it on a memory card for you for free if you pay the price of postage. More info: http://freemcboot.info/ As for solderless modchips only one was ever made to my knowledge and they are very hard to find on such short notice. However, Bad_Ad84 might have a few solderless DMS4 chips on hand.
I wouldn't mind getting a memory card with that if someone would like to sell me one with it in. However id still prefer a solution that meant i could boot originals.
FreeMCBoot will do HDLoader/OPL, ESR and doesn't care if you boot originals or not. It won't prevent originals from loading in any way, shape or form. I have a spare PS2 memory card I can load it up onto but the mail typically takes about a week on average. All I'd ask is the cost of a new card (what I paid for mine really, not retail) plus postage.
FreeMCBoot with ESR will allow to to boot a patched copy, but not the original - but on the plus side it is very cheap, doesn't alter your console and reduces the potential damage to your drive (unlike SwapMagic which has reported cases of damaging the drive mechanism due to constant opening and closing of the drive without power).
Anyone in the UK able to supply me with a memory card with this? Otherwise I might take APE up on his offer later on.
You both aren't particularly clear on what type of "original" you are referring to, so while you are both correct in a way, you appear to contradict one another. What APE meant was that ESR will of course boot an original disc from the consoles's region, but mooseblaster was trying to say that an original disc from another reason will not boot.
Thanks for showing there's a confusion here, so to clarify. * A genuine pressed PAL copy of a game will play normally in a PAL console. * A genuine pressed NTSC-J copy of a game will NOT play in a PAL console. * A copy of an NTSC-J game patched with ESR will play in a PAL console with a MCFreeBoot/ESR memory card.
@Paulo Why not just mod the console and get it over with, if its a scph-7500 or above it shouldn't give you any troubles , and will play anything you throw at it,so you dont have to worry about disc swopping ESR or game region, I can mod it for you ,but the shipping will kill it...
Lack of sleep is my current excuse, but you are correct. FreeMCBoot, like I said, won't care if it is pressed or not but I did fail to realize that FreeMCBoot isn't going to magically allow PAL titles to boot on a NTSC-U machine and vice versa. As awesome as that would be it just isn't in the cards.
FreeMCBoot isn't really what im looking for but as I need to buy a memory card anyone if someone can supply me with it then im happy to buy it. Still after someone for swapmagic or install a chip!
Legend has it he can ninja a chip into a PS2 while you're playing it and you'll never notice until you reboot.
