    Hi guys!

I just got a dev PSVita from Sony for a review and after a power off its only working on DEMO MODE, meaning you can only access the game demos on the vita's memory. Does Sony have a particular button combination to get out of this mode? I remember reading that the PS3 had a similar one...

Is this like a Kiosk Ps3? Usally you get a text with the update which contains the pin. Mind if I ask what model number this device is?

PDEL-1001 i.e. is the EU Devkit, woudl be interesting to know about this one.

It's a Kiosk PS Vita: Shuts off after 5 minutes of gameplay, resets to main screen with demos. Seems to be a stock LatAM release (PCH-1010) with another firmware. Didn't get any codes with it, just a box.

Have you got a link or something to login and download firmware updates, if so check there. If not, did you try the keys like PS3 has (L+R+Select+Square) to get to the unlock screen?

If you can get to the unlock screen:
    - try the latest PS3 (4.00) code 0219
    - try bruteforce seems to be the last resort :(

    Other things to try:

    1. Go to Settings > System > System Information
    2. Press simultaneously R + L + DPad Left + Square for a few seconds
    3. Release those buttons then immediately press the start button
    What does it say there?

You may want to try to go to recovery and check the options there:

This is for 1.5.1, 1.5.0 is a bit harder to enter!

Nice you got it back working :) Could you just unlock the demo mode there?

If I read what he posted, he got into the recovery menu then selected the option to install a fw and gave it a normal retail firmware.

Seems like a loss to do that if you ask me. =(

This is why people who do not know what they are doing should not use this equipment. Now you have lost the firmware and it is un-dumpable.

I agree that is a waste. But i suppose if it belongs to them, they can do whatever they want with it, even degrading the thing's original meaning.

Jealous of a non-retail Vita. But I can't believe the FW restore.

    *sigh

There is nothing lost there, its a PCH-1010, a common stock model with Kiosk firmware (just like PS3). The links to the updates for Demokits are know and everyone can grab the pup of there if he/she wants. You can't dump of the fw at the moment anyways and having a common vita stuck in a useless Demo mode looks more like a waste to me. This is not a PDEL or something special at all.

    Just follow this
It can be unlocked so you can update it to 3.01 IDU (Kiosk) Firmware version. From 2.61 and higher new features were added and on 3.01 the automatic restarting function has been disabled as far as i know! Test it and tell us your opinion!
Also, you can still connect to internet, psn or even install psp emulator exploits like a retail vita! Good luck!

So yeah... I bought one of these "NOT FOR RESALE", hopelessly stuck in the dreadful "Demo Mode", Vitas not even two weeks ago. Thankfully didn't pay much for it, because it sure doesn't seem like there's a way to permanately disable Demo Mode.

And I know, some among you reading this are about to be extrememly irratated with me, but I did a full system reset and updated the firmware on it in a vein attempt at making it usable. For the record, it was firmware 1.80 before updating it to the current firmware 3.01.

Now onto what I have discovered regarding this system since.

With memory cards removed, I hooked up both this and my retail Vita, both of which are on the same firmware, to my computer and have used the Content Manager software to make complete system back-ups of both systems. The back-up folder for the retail system has an alpha-numeric name, but the back-up folder for the ex-demo Vita has a folder name consisting of all zeroes!

Now before I go one step beyond the point of no return and attempt, what seems obvious to me, "restoring" the demo Vita with the back-up folder from the retail Vita after renaming the folder and all content files to match that of the demo Vita's back-up. Am I about to waste my time, or worse yet brick the demo unit by attempting to do this? I didn't pay much for this demo Vita, but I'd rather it be stuck forever in Demo Mode than to be reduced to a state of just being a dead spare parts unit.
