It looks like a skin honestly. The only mock up I have seen up-close is here. This was a mock up. All the "Xbox 360" logos are printed on and not engraved. The PSU is actually just powering on a fake ROL that stays lit up when plugged in. The console is not functional at all.

This faceplate is similar to prototype ones below but it never was released with white flaps. Another thing to focus on is the early mock ups and prototype kits all had rounded sync buttons.

What is up with the power connector on that thing? I've never seen these consoles before.

Probebly a case close to retail, power connector modiefiet to fit a 5 or 12 volt round power conector for just the few leds. (if i was supposed to mod a empty case with a few leds, thats what i would do.) but nice pictures, love to see more :)

Theres an article from a magazine and a video as well on this. They were mock ups just for the shell and design.
Dunno what they were thinking with some haha

From about 2:28 is where these are, also, there are a few beta kits shown in this video

They should of kept the rubber flaps on the front. Spring loaded flap broke within months...

I love the prototype designs, silver with no markings looks the best. Of course most concepts do, and same goes for cars. Retail has to be watered down :(

Yeah I wish the prototype faceplates could fit a regular kit. They've got a slightly different shape but I have 6 black ones and 1 white one.

upper left of image, second row down...
    the computer tower looking thing.
    ...
now i feel like trashing this shitbox360, never use it anyway!
(the design on that rectangular thing would be better for cooling)
as above stated 'retail vs prototype = a fuckin JOKE!'
    all the prototype stuff rocks!
my fave prototype has to be that cd32 though, i mean there's just NO competition... :eek:nthego:

They're more of a flexible plastic than they are rubber ( referring to actual prototype 360 faceplates ).

We maybe onto something guys, I'd love a faceplate like that.

Also I noticed in the OP the chrome bezel looks like a sticker.

That's one of the mockup designs produced when Astro was working on designs for the original 360 hardware.

XboxSurgon, you are on YouTube, right? Make a video about the prototype mock up (or whatever it is). Thanks.

Yes I'm on YouTube but this mockup wasn't mine. All it was was basically an empty shell with the light fixture inside to light the entire rol constantly. Not much to it honestly. I had the white faceplate shown but it's now with a trusted member here.
