For those that haven't seen it yet. Powerslave EX Public Beta 1.0.0 is now available...for FREE! Download here: https://powerslaveex.wordpress.com/downloads/
Caught that a while ago and it is easily the best way to play that underrated gem, take it from a guy who has played the crap out of it on the PS1.
Brilliant - I've never played this but have heard that it's great. Thanks for letting us know that the remake has been (beta) released.
Anyone who views the site should know that the downloads for the port have been taken down thanks to an alleged cease and desist claim. I have the initial beta release and the first patch if anyone wants it though.
This is bad new. Fair enough if it's the legitimate copyright holder who's complaining (I mean, that's fair even though it's unfortunate to those of us who wanted to play this conversion), but why wait until this late stage? Why not tell the coder to stop when the project was first announced, instead of having him presumably wasting all of the time and effort since. SpooferJahk, could you make the two files available for download, please?
This is Streets Of Rage Remake all over again... the original licence holders wouldn't have even thought to do anything with Powerslave/Exhumed/1999 until this project's existence surfaced, and now someone in the food chain's throwing a spanner in the works. *sigh* Although it's not an ideal scenario, why don't the EX team just create a "spiritual successor" under a different name using their own proprietary tools or free engine technology with all-new content? Maybe they could even resurrect the original Ruins title as a reference to their inspiration? At the very least, I was expecting hidden dolls and a Death Tank clone from this promising effort to further emphasise its roots. As the sole IP from Lobotomy (which I can't imagine has been in any state to challenge its development for years, being long since dissolved), I'm hoping some kind of compromise can be found - there are fans out there who'd love to see this happen, and I very much consider myself one!
What Kaiser, the man behind the project, should have done was what he did with Doom 64 EX and make it so you had to have the actual game to run the port. That way it's just the port and no game files are included with it. Also for those asking, here is the port. In the zip file it has the base files and the first patch Kaiser released. Powerslave EX
Thanks for sharing! Started playing it yesterday with an xbox controller. Feels great! Now we just need a Blood port/remake. Meanwhile I'm happy with BloodCM.
