So I recently bought a GBA SP from the flea market here in Seoul. It looked like it was in amazing condition, but the battery was dead so I couldn't test it. I came home and charged it but it wouldn't turn on. I then realized that it only powers one when I move the switch to an extra position. if I do as much as shake the system or touch the power switch then the power immediately goes off. I've uploaded a video to show this more clearly.

I have another GBA SP and tried switching out the bottom parts but it didn't work. This one is a model with the backlight and the other one I have is the one with the lesser front light.

What can I do to fix this problem?

Wonky switch or connections? Try touching up the solder points of the switch. Or replace it, if you can find a new one (I just looked, they don't seem to be readily available on eBay or DX, unfortunately...)

Ghetto method: Find something (e.g. a bit of cardboard) to put in the way of the sliding part so it doesn't go all the way to the end.

Well I have a spare GBA SP. Different motherboard though. Would I be able to swap the power switches?

I do suck pretty bad at soldering though :(

Maybe that's not an option for you then, since the Nintendo PCBs these days seem to be rather delicate. I had to replace my NDSL's power button recently and lifted a few pads doing so, and I'm usually pretty decent at soldering.

BTW, I ende dup taking your advice and just putting a piece of cardboard to stop it from going all the way. Works like a charm.

Feels really ghetto and probably removes any resale value for the thing, but I'm fine with that.

    Thanks for the advice!

could put a little spot of super glue at the top of the switch to stop it going all the way....just small dots so you don't glue it into the off position XD, then it should be fairly study and not fall out and would only really be noticeable if you where looking for it
