Picked up a Wii U store display unit @ a yard sale, anyone know how to take it out of demo mode ?

Picked up a Wii U store display unit @ a yard sale (Along w/ a GC and harvest moon for $110!), and am looking for any info on how to get it to play as a regular Wii U. I couldn't get it to go into settings from doing the old Tv - Home Button trick, but did get it into settings once from putting a blank SD card in, but could not duplicate that success.

The Wii U auto boots after the main power is plugged in. I tried putting a blank USB stick in to see if I would get the option to format, but nope. I'm not too sure why the blank SD card trick didn't work again, but I'll keep plugging away.

Long story short, they aren't regular retail units locked in demo mode and can't be simply turned into a retail unit.

 

Is the only way by acquiring a Nintendo firmware rollback disk ?
