PC Engine Duo Screen help

    btw. does the neon tube turn on? since this would be propably one of the most week part in this device.

    nope, nothing in the top half turns on. I'm just hoping it's because it's being run from batteries.

    had a same problem with a GT before. the neon lamp needs about 100VAC to light. therefore a device on the board does chop and step-up the DC voltage to around 100VAC.
    there could be two reason why the backlight doesn't work. the device has a malfunction or the lamp is broken due to its age. or just as you said, the battery can't provide enough power.
