Well at the very least Alpha Ruby and Omega Sapphire won't be exclusive for it, given that it's coming out well before the new 3DS is available in the West (and could be the biggest 3DS title of the holiday season).

Fun fact: with this coming out in Japan this fall, there will be a new DS/3DS hardware version each year in some region since 2008. (DSi in Japan in 08, in the West in 09, DSi XL in 2010, 3DS in 2011, XL in 2012, and the 2DS last year).

Yeah the Gameboy Colour had exclusive games for it, and from memory everyone accepted that.

Although Nintendo should be wise and release new games with functionality for both versions of 3ds for at least for the first year or two. (maybe extra content or side quests for new 3ds owners)

EDIT - It just came to me why Nintendo may be doing this. The new hardware inside could be similar to the Wii U making cross platform titles much easier.

My sister just got her 3DSXL this year. I wasn't expecting a new hardware upgraded model for a while.

What a load of bullshit. Fuck Nintendo.

I can only hope there won't be many games that only work on the new model. The wording in their press release begging people to buy a 3DS for Christmas is kind of hilarious though, since you'd have to be a mouthbreathing retard to buy a 3DS now.

Fine with me as long as they don't heavily rely on digital games for overpriced memory cards (Vita).

Still, less than a month after upgrading to 3DS XL... :(

How am I taking the news? Glad that I didn't spend that much on my 3DS systems!
Nintendo had the DSi, and Sony had their PSP 3000/Go. Both had better RAM and processing power than the original model but did either company actually put that new hardware to good use? Nope.

Besides, they chose a whopper of a game for the new model, Xenoblade. My first 3DS is broken due to stripped screws, and this seems like a great time to upgrade, especially since Nintendo might be releasing it in the US by Christmas.

Nintendo really needs to bring in an outside source for naming systems. Because New 3DS isn't going to be new forever. Or is there going to be another "DS" right around the corner after this that will phase out the New 3DS? I bought a day 1 3DS, then upgraded to a day 1 3DS XL, I think I'm done with new Nintendo handhelds for a bit, or new New. It'll be just like the Wii U again with grandparents. "Oh my grandson wants a new 3DS." "Oh, you mean a new 3DS or a new New 3DS?" "Screw it, I'm gonna go buy the boy socks and spend the rest of the money on whiskey."

Geez the situation isn't that dire. The chances of an additional 3DS revision after this one are slim, and the 3DS line will likely go on as usual for the rest of its lifespan.

Don't really get what everyone's moaning about - the 3DS hasn't had any sort of substantial hardware revision for over three years and seemingly everyone loses their shit over this minor change, yet are happy to upgrade their phones which cost two or three times as much every 12-24 months. Plus, Nintendo have announced one, just one, game which makes use of the new features - I seriously doubt we'll be seeing many more.

The problem is that "upgrades" like this are not typically welcomed by the gaming community. It splits the user base and a lot of developers won't even bother with the upgraded hardware unless they need the features or it hits a certain market penetration.

I know what they should have called it.

    Call it...the Game Boy 3D.

Maybe I need to play it first, but that tiny right analog pad looks awkward as hell.

Why did you censor "shit" but leave "whiny bitch" unmodified?

Yeah, it looks worse than the PSP nub, it'll be awkward to say the least.

Something gets modified for the better, everyone goes crazy...
I thought people liked better things, I've owned both 3ds and 3dsxl, I'll just sell one to get the other, problem solved!

This isn't a worthwhile uprgrade and it makes Nintendo look like they lack commitment.
