Title says it all. Read more here. This is a Hack A Day link. From there it links you to a Neo Geo forum so I didn't link it directly. Think it's against the rules or something...
Ha. They didn't even bother soldering in the built in storage. That unit just went up in potential value, considering one can possible upgrade the internal memory easily. Good find, thanks.
I may get one if they get the new BIOS for other console emulation working on it. The "something-or-other" (yeah, not sure what it's called...) has been ported to it so all Neo Geo games can be played on it. There's fear that future revisions will have a NAND chip soldered in place of the 2GB Micro card.
BUY THEM ALL NOW! I would really hate a soldered-in-place NAND but isn't that what we were all originally expecting? I can't see them doing that though. SNK is smart enough to know it would be ripped open, and having a separate SD card for the storage costs more than soldering it in place (when mass produced). Or, at least let's hope they don't.
What's the point except for curiosity if it's possible? The screen is inferior to the PSP-2000's and the device is more expensive. In addition, the PSP can play not only Neo Geo emulators but all that other stuff. How in the world would this (what should have been possible in the first place) add any value?
It adds value to it because everyone (assumption) thought that the internal storage would be soldered- there is no port for it on the shell. So, because we can now open it up and upgrade the storage to, say 32GB, it makes adds value to it because the internal storage is upgrade-able. Sure it isn't HUGE news, but it's nice to know one can do that with relative ease. Keep in mind that the processor is more capable too. In raw speed terms, the Neo Geo X runs at 1GHz w/ 256MB ram, while the PSP is at 222-333MHz with 64MB ram. Real world performance differences probably won't be black and white, but the Neo Geo X is running newer hardware and architecture.
Bah. The Neo Geo X seems nothing more than a gimped Chinese MP4 player, with a front end to a Neo Geo emulator auto loaded at boot.
there are even references to the Dingoo in some of the internal config files - it's definitely from the same lineage.
Neo Geo X is a total failure. Poor screen, emulation issues, wrong aspect ratio, lag, bluriness. A PSP2000 is better in every case. Oh I forgot ... it has the Neo Geo logo ... it has value!
Nah, its good to let of some steam! Seriously I am a big Neo fan and I was almost ready to buy this. I cannot justify that much money though. Especially when it has so many issues
I like mine a lot, I've never had the chance to have any Neo Geo home hardware due to cost; I'm more looking at potentially new games coming out for it.
You get offended too easily, chill out. He was just stating, despite it being hacked open - there are better and cheaper alternatives
