I'm thinking of getting one of those combo of the NES and the SNES. Are these just a rip-off or are there good models out there. I have a US SNES, but I have a few NES games, so I was thinking about getting one of these machines. Thanks! :smile-new: =hugh
those machines are usualy not perfectly accurate, often having incorrect audio output or not being 100% copatble with all titles...
100% this. It's definitely nice as a cheap alternative, but I think the best thing to do in that scenario is try to either find a cheap original NES or buy a "broken" one off of eBay, deactivate the 10NES chip, and clean it up a little bit. NESes are one of my favorite things to work on, actually. They're so simple.
In Canada maybe. American NESes are pain. To see the whole board there's two layers of RF shield and the cartridge interface.
American NESes are all I've ever worked on. In retrospect, I think my first NES was what got me interested in computer and game console repair. The cleanest game had a 1/10 chance working, and even then the graphics were horribly corrupt. It was interesting, though, it was probably one of the last front-loading NESes ever made: a Control Deck originally from around Christmas 1992. All my NESes since have been earlier models, and honestly, none of them ever display that corruption the same way. It was even missing the springs for some reason, haha.
you will find with the dual machines they run 99% of stuff fine but you can have problems with some titles you should be able to source an original NES and SNES for not too much more than the Dual will cost you
If you just wanna play games for fun the retro-duo is fine enough (or yobo nes for nes-only). If you're nostalgic and want to feel exactly like in 1989, then get the real deal.
It heavily depends on how observant you are. If you aren't really particular with things like video and audio quality, these clones would be fine for you. But if you actually notice the quality of video and audio these clones will surely annoy you. Skip on them and get the real thing unless you aren't too picky about low quality video (usually only composite out) and probably lower quality audio. I'll say they are better than no system at all but they can't compete with the real thing.
I have the Yobo FC Twin. The SNES is quite acceptable, sounds good, and looks rather decent. The NES on it, though... the sound is horrendous. Absolutely dreadful. Unplayable, almost. Still, for a substitute SNES, they're quite nice.
From what I've heard the physical design of the SNES circuits actually made it easier to be copied in this manner rather accurately, compared to the NES. But even still, SNES clones for whatever reason usually only offer Composite Video which is awful. If they could output RGB and S-Video, or Component for some people, it would be much better.
I have a retro duo, they work fine but definitely not the real thing ! They are expensive emulators IMO
They aren't emulators. The are clones. The clones actually are alot more accurate than many emulators in various ways. For example the SNES clones due to its more cloning friendly design are definitely most accurate than older emulators like ZSNES and SNES9X. But ofcourse they suffer from the quality of the video and audio output.
I honestly hate them, people around where I live try and sell them for $70 new and $50 used. around here though, most people hardly ever see a NES or SNES for sale at the used game stores, just the games. I laughed so hard when I guy at a yard sale thought a real SNES was worth $100 and tried to sell it to me.
