Z64 Bios 2.20 (Download)

Readme:

Based on unofficial 2.18d Z64 Bios.

Created by SilverFox, April 2007.

Changes from 2.18d:

1) Onspec's "internal.sys" ide driver has been replaced with moddified version "newide.sys" that will allow the use of Compact Flash cards via a CF-IDE adapter. CF-IDE use allows for 100% silent operation, with lower power consumption giving reliable use in a Z64 with no extra power supply (I had problems on 3 z64's running a 2.5" HD off its internal power).

Note1: Iomega Zip and multiple partitions etc.. left intact from 2.18, so z64start.bat, and automatic joining of partitions should all still work.

Note2: normal IDE HD's should still be 100% fully supported.

Note3: Compact Flash must be formatted just like IDE HD - i.e. from a Dos5 bootdisk or partitionmagic etc.. Formatting in windows won't work.

Unofficial USA Z64 Patch File v3.0U
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since there aren't any official Z64 Patch files anymore I've decided to make
my own. This document gives the contents of each patch file that I've
created and the ROM game titles they should work with. The version of this
patch file is v3.0 even though this is the first release. The reason is
to avoid confusion with previously released patch files created by Visoly
that ended at v2.6. Scroll to the bottom of this text file for information
on why some patches were not included even though they exist and/or may be
needed for other backup units.

Notes:

- Boot code must be set to default (6102) to for all games listed in this
text.

* The original (and only?) USA release of Ken Griffey Jr's Slugfest ROM by
AGS has an invalid checksum. All released cracks/fixes so far are based
on the AGS release so applying them to the GOOD release will invalidate
the checksum of the resulting ROM file. I've modified the original CZN
crack to allow it to work with the GOOD version of this ROM. Included in
the Z64PATCH.DAT file in this archive is the AGS version. To make a
version of the Z64PATCH.DAT that will work with the GOOD version of the
ROM just replace the kgs-ags files in the Z64PATCH.DAT file with the
kgsgood files that are in the extra folder included in this archive.
The reason they aren't both included in the archive is because the first
64 bytes of both ROMS are identical so it's impossible to have both patch
files used in the same Z64PATCH.DAT

+ Dk64-usa.RAM file required for Donkey Kong 64 crack to work. The
DK64-USA.RAM file must be renamed to the same filename as the ROM file
you are using it with.

++ Jfg-usa.RAM file required for Jet Force Gemini crack to work. The
JFG-USA.RAM file must be renamed to the same filename as the ROM file you
are using it with. The .NFO file for the Jet Force Gemini crack says not
to use the OSD for loading the Jet Force Gemini ROM. I found no problems
using the OSD, the ROM booted fine and the game played fine.

+++ Swep1rus.EEP file not required for Star Wars: Episode I Racer if internal
memory reinitialized at ROM boot (Start+Z) (read czn-ep1f.zip nfo file
for more info).

Why some patches are not included
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you may be aware, there have been many more patches released than are
included in this patch release. One reason is that this release only covers
USA ROM titles. The other reason is because the Z64 doesn't need most of
the cracks/patches that currently exist because of it's built-in boot
emulation abilities.

Here's a list of USA cracks that were not included and why:

Mickey's Speedway USA 6105 boot emulation works fine, saving works
PokÃ©mon Snap 6103 boot emulation works fine, saving requires FlashRAM card

CF support? Nice! IIRC my BIOS only supports ZIP, HDD and something called ORB drives, and my HDD sounds like it's dying, so perfect timing. Thanks!

Also, what files do I add to the zip disks? Just "z64patch.dat" or the others?

Can someone here help me format my CF Card for my Z64? I can't use Partition Magic because it doesn't work on removeable drives and I don't have DOS 5 or even know how to use DOS. Can anyone help? Thanks.
