    Hi

I came across with this site
    http://www.retrorgb.com/saturn.html

It mention that Sega Saturn Model 1 is better than Model 2 because Model 1 has the high quality picture display than Model 2. Can someone confirm this is true?

    Thanks.

That's comparing Saturn to the arcade. Notice where it says "free play".

Also, I just wanted to know that is it true that Model 1 display high quality res than Model 2? Since the site mention it. I wonder If that true or not? I can't find the source for this.

    Thanks

Model 2 arcade hardware is miles ahead of Saturn in the 3D department.

Saturn Model 1 & 2 differences are not like the video above. Nowhere near.

    That page is hogwash:
    - it does not mention which motherboard types the compared machines have. Model 1s and 2s can use the same board types.
    - it compares third party RGB cables, which are almost always of subpar quality.

Saturns with VA8 and VA9 boards have a dent at the top of the image, and in the middle too during loading, and that is the only real difference found so far. But that's just two motherboards out of 15+ made (twice as many if you include sub-versions). VA8 boards are rare in NTSC machines, and VA9 boards are only used in PAL units and the Hi-Saturn model 2.

Hes talking about saturn model 1 vs saturn model 2. Not the arcade stuff.

Basically, hes completing confusing multiple things.

I know, I had it all wrong.

Thank you confirm this. I guess that page is wrong then.

I guess I confused one or two things.

The video world was ruined with that decades ago. Granted, thick cables actually did make a difference there, so individually shielded 100€ SCART cables actually were useful.

And then there are Monster cables which provide virus-free hdmi connections, and this gem from about ten years ago:

Just wait for the 4K revolution. Major retailers are already selling TV's supporting "2160P". Great for designers, because it will bring 4K display costs down. But not so great for consumers when most television channels only output in 720P.

The price difference there is lovely as well as the fact that the component cables suggest I'll have a girlfriend because of them. If I was a bit more desperate I'd happily blame the fact my TV is only 480p capable.

Those are expensive cables. However I get the feeling that I'm supposed to find it funny that the cables are "the same" and yet differently priced. However they aren't the same (and I'm not talking about the colour coding).

    Why arent they the same?

Same connections, can be used interchangeably, just different colours.

Hypothetically the component cables should be built to handle more bandwidth? But you're right they're probably identical short of the colors. In high school I told this to a friend who got the XBox HD kit and didn't believe me. He went home, gave it a shot and came back the next day admitting I was right.

Sorry to bother you guys, but I'm confused: Why is there a link to the RetroRGB Saturn page on top, but this thread talks about "vs Model 2 Arcade" and a video? Was there originally a different link in the first post?

    Gotcha, thanks.

@Unknown-Organization - Would you mind editing your 1st post to reflect that? I've had a few people see this thread and ask me about my "Saturn video", which doesn't exist.

@Druid II - I often see you post excellent information regarding the Saturn and it's motherboard revisions. Do you have a website with this info that I can link to, or do you normally just post on forums? As I say on my Saturn page: I'm not a Saturn expert and am always looking for new information.
