Modding a TI-89 Titanium - Backlit Screen

Hi there folks, I had this idea in mind for some time, and thought some of you could give me some interesting tips.

I've done some modding every now and then but to be honest, not enough as to do this all by myself.

The idea is to mod my calculator, a Texas Instruments TI-89 Titanium, to make it have a backlit screen. The lack of light sometimes really bothers me when using it for my studies.

I also own an average TI-89 so I might as well start by trying to mod that one just in case anything goes wrong.

I'm also thinking on making a resistant / shock proof case for it, but that's another thing :icon_bigg

Look up the afterburner kit that is for the 1st generation of gameboy advance. I'm sure that is what you need.

 

I'd imagine that somebody over at ticalc.org, or ti-89.org may be able to assist. Someone at ticalc.org came up with a backlighting guide for a ti-83+ that you might be able to adapt -> http://mhespenh.net/calc.html

Solution: get a USB light.

 

Well you need to strip down the lcd and then make a back light.

Four leds in and a piece of plastic.

Here is the tutorial. then just tap into the 5v on the usb.
