Can the ability to change usernames be added? There is a plugin that should do it for this forum software I think...

Why though? I'd really like to have my username changed.

Because we don't allow it. It's confusing. Everyone would say "where's Decapicitated?"

If you want to ask Kev, go ahead. As a general rule, we don't change them because everyone chose an identity for themselves and it's odd when they're suddenly someone else lol ;)

Any chance you could add a light theme based on the new one? The new one is great for several reasons, not least the fact it's HiDPI (apart from avatars sadly, but I guess has more to do with the set limit). But dark themes aren't fit for reading.

There are two light styles. Use the style selector at the bottom (as per my guide to the new forum, which is linked in the green bar at the top ;) )

There's nothing wrong with dark themes for reading, but you're welcome to use the blue theme.

Yes, I saw those. They look blurry and pixelated on a HiDPI monitor though (and they are honestly not very good looking), while the new and modern one doesn't.

It's of course individual how much it affects you, but it's a well known fact that light text on dark backgrounds is more tiresome to read and that's why text heavy sites like newspapers avoid them. It's also a fact that people spend less time on average on sites like this.

But, I do understand if you have other priorities of course. It was merely a suggestion. I really would appreciate if you could offer it though.

Thank you for you comments on my theme (blue) that took 60+ hours to develop (along with Demon's invaluable help) for free, to look exactly like the old site because a few people didn't like the dark theme and wanted "the old one" back. On a high definition screen, by the way. Looks fine to me, but you're welcome to your opinion. If the options are unsuitable for you and that drives you to spend less time on the site, I can't stop you from doing that ;) If you want to buy another theme for the site, you're welcome to do so.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to insult you. I don't know whether you also designed the original theme it was based on, but copying a somewhat dated design doesn't make it your design. And if you did, it wasn't bad for the time. And as far as I recall, it seems like there were several improvements done this time around, while it still retains much of what I don't personally appreciate with the original (hence my earlier comment).

In any case I'm sure those who are nostalgic about the old style appreciate it and I do of course applaud you for spending so much time to remake it in order to please them.

Also you don't seem to know the difference between HiDPI and high reolution, so I'll fill you in. DPI has to do with pixel density (it should really be PPI as DPI is a printing term, but believe me, I'm not the person who coined "HiDPI"), meaning that I'm using a screen which uses far more pixel per inch, allowing for more detail than traditional screens. This is what you see on modern smartphones and tablets and an increasing number of PC monitors. Apple uses their "Retina" brand for these products. I'm personally on a regular laptop running Windows.

About the comment about spending less time, it wasn't meant as a silly threat or anything. I just thought it might be worth to consider. The web is full of studies from the past 30 years years confirming that, so it may affect other visitors as well.

Lastly, I only have experience with phpBB and InvisionFree themes, but in those cases it's fairly easy to just change some color values of existing themes.

I like you retro, but that was kinda passive aggressive.

The guy basically want another palette on the dark theme, is that doable or not? He wasn't complaining on your work itself, just his preference.

That said, I totally prefer light gray on dark with sans fonts to read on a screen and black on white with serif font to read on paper, it just feels more natural. I basically spend everyday all day reading both paper and screens and the opposite "wears" me more.

No. Sorry, but we're not pandering to everyone. There's a dark theme with white text and there's a theme like the old one, with white background and black text (which I coded - never said I designed the original, it's a child theme but it's heavily customized and we coded it - hence it IS our theme). Choose which one you prefer.

I'm a photographer, I use high end equipment, but thanks for being patronizing @Siskan.

There won't be any new themes just yet - unless someone wants to buy some. No, you can't just switch a couple of colours. Let's just leave it there. Enjoy the site!

    Sure, I'll drop my request.
But let me clarify one thing. I really had no intention to be patronizing at all. First of all, I had no clue you were involved with the making of this theme to any extent. Secondly, I did not know you're a photographer. As there are many things about the blue theme which are not optimized for HiDPI and you talked about high definition, it just seemed like you didn't understand what I was trying to explain, so I attempted to clarify.

    No worries ;)

There are plans to consider new themes in future, so keep an eye on the site updates. I can't say when, yet - two weeks of coding the last one was exhausting! ;)

They are supposed to be wider themes - there's nothing to fix. It's a different design style. And the avatars have to stay as they are.

It's a bit odd, though. There should be at least an option for white to have a similar layout for those who like the black layout but not the darker color.

About the avatars, why's that persay?

Community videos submitted to Kev to put on YouTube under the site name, might get the site some change from YouTube and get more content out in the wild for people to look at. I've got tonnes of psp stuff to get through..

You can do this with adblock, add this line to your blocking rules:
    ##div#taigachat_full
That will hide the entire chat box if you never want to see it...
