Saw this yesterday. I had no idea there was an arcade game. Somone on my YouTube channel pointed out tht it's a FP version of the 3DS game.

I think I remember seeing this in an arcade that was inside of a massive AEON mall once, but I can't remember where...

    Doesn't look like a FPS.
Looks like a standard lightgun railshooter.

Not all first-person games are free roaming first person shooters. The game is first person because you are (presumably) playing the character of Luigi and the images you see on the screen are from the point of view he would have.

Basically, it's a first-person rail shooter, like _The House of the Dead_

Played it a couple weeks ago in two player mode. I remember one credit lasted quite long and it would let you play until you lose all your energy. The player who loses his energy first has to pay for another credit or wait for the other player to finish. I think there are only three courses which are quite long, but I found the game very repetitive even within one course and don't see much replay value.

House of the dead 3 (and onwards?).
Nobody says "fp games", it's an uncommon thing to say, hence why I asked as I didn't understand.
Also a railshooter is a railshooter no matter the point of view so calling it an fp game is weird already there.
Nonetheless thanks again for the vid, Yakumo, it was interesting to watch.

All the House of the Dead games have been first person. I'm honestly confused about why you would consider HOTD III to be a first person game and the earlier ones not, since they all had basically identical presentation.

I guess using "FP" in that way is a moderately uncommon usage, but it does come up quite often when discussing games on a technical level. It's also worth pointing out that although rail shooters are commonly first person, this is not a necessary trait - one obvious counterexample being one of the earlier rail shooters _Space Harrier_.

As for why Yakumo mentioned it, it's most probably because the original GC version of Luigi's Mansion was a 3rd person view game, and the 1st person view in the arcade version is a significant change, and one that's worth noting.

The major difference is that prior to hotd3 you didn't see the gun like in an fps and like in this particular game.

Thanks for posting. Really enjoy those videos from japanese arcades and stores.

Talking about the game itself, i'm the only one that thought it's boring? Seems to me almost all of those new arcade games are rail shooters. Transformers, Aliens Armaggedon, Terminator Salvation, Jurassic Park Arcade, Star Wars Battle POD,...

Maybe they are easier to develop? Or it's gameplay makes them better for operators, since they're money eaters?

Yep, that's exactly why I said FP as in First Person. It was just a quick way and technically right way of describing the game compared to the original. Maybe I should have said FP rail shooter to be more precise.

Yeh, I've noticed this and they all use the same basic cabinet too with details added for each game. To be honest I think the reason why these games are so popular is because of phone games. In a way they are the same. Minimal effort for controls and no AI programming since everything is scripted. Still, there are many original games being made. It just seems like the west only gets these on rails shooters. By the way, in Japan they have shitty phone games in arcade form now such as Tsumu Tsumu. Basically it's another stupid candy crush game. The arcade cabinet looks nice but all it really is, is a flat panel touch screen in a fancy cabinet.

Now that I think about it that is quite true. Maybe not every game but a large number of them.

I was joking around but it does sorta feel like it that way honestly especially with most recent released ones and the older ones too a bit.

but on-topic, yeah it feels pretty lazy for arcade game makers to do by cashing in on the rail-on shooter games (granted there's a couple of decent ones) but the majority of times really doesn't have any replay values (besides trying to get secret endings) that makes you wanna keep playing or going back to the next visit or so.
I really wanna see more Japanese exclusive games you got like "Too Spicy", "House of The Dead EX couples edition" or something like that and also some Tekken 7, MORE of those pod games like Mobile Suit Gundam & Airflight dogfight games that runs under Windows XP Professional Japanese OS and Left 4 Dead Arcade with the mouse & Keyboard combo (i'm surprise South Koreans hasn't thought of that) and Typing of The Dead and Intial D Racing games!
