Laptop dvdrw drive not reading.

    I had two laptops that worked fine. When i decided to sell them both of them dont read cds,but can read dvds. I have tried everything except format... can someone help me? Is this a hardware problem or sth messed their firmware or sth.?

    Try cleaning the lasers... either use a laser cleaning disc, or if you're careful, a cotton bud.

    Already done that but nothing,i am pretty handy with hardware so i indeed tried everything...

    i had once a problem with writing cdrw and dvdrw cause the damn starforce copyprotection driver blocked that and i meand not copy a game i mean writing a normal data cd/dvd
    if you have a clean windows hmmm

    Yep,thats what i thought,cause if the drive was fooked it wouldnt read dvds. It just reads dvds but cant read cds and write anything.

    Nope, they have two settings usually - one for DVD, one for CD.

    With the PS2, the first thing that you'll notice is you can't play blue discs. Similar thing here, I reckon.... laser on its way out.
