Is this an actual SEGA controller?

I was going through my old stuff and found this controller. I have never used it, can't even remember purchasing it. (Never eBay at 2AM.) Has anyone seen one of these before? It was shipped from Hong Kong. Is this a knockoff or could it be a real SEGA product?

That looks like an SLS Sega saturn controller with USB made for use with computer and ideally with MAME or Emulators. Yes I too when they first came out bought only one. Now they aren't made anymore and the value of just one is now between $100-200 on eBay.

That's definitely not Sega official (no markings on the outside of the box), but it's covered in Japanese which is weird for a Chinese knockoff if that's what it is. I know that Sega released some official USB Saturn controllers, but this isn't one of them.

Seems like it's a reproduction of some sort. When I Google its product number (CS2-0002), I see "復刻版" (reproduction version?) appearing.

Amazon lists it as a SEGA product. There's a SLS logo and branding on it, so I guess that SEGA Logistics Service was its manufacturer.
It seems really expensive to buy now.

    SEGA Retro lists it: http://segaretro.org/Sega_Logistics_Service

Sega made this when they launched their online game service that failed. It was basically sega emulators online.

They sold them in the U.S. as well, but they were white.

They have thinner plastic, and feel cheaper and less quality than the real controllers. They are just chinese made product.

Compared to a real controller the differences are striking.

They are sort of useful for raspberry pi, but the xbox 360 usb controller is the best one and dominates
    right now.

When I quoted that $100 it was because that's what I sold my SLS controller for on eBay about a year ago.
There are plenty of cheaper wannabee controllers out there that use USB but are no where near as good as the SLS controllers were.

For fighting games, I don't see how the XBox 360 controller could be better. I've played some SF IV on the XBox 360, all the time wishing I could have a Saturn controller instead. Maybe just what I'm used to...

Thanks for the clarifications, someguy1. I guess I'll put it up on eBay for a ridiculous sum and, if it sells, I can just buy a Saturn-to-USB adapter and use my regular Saturn controller.

Speaking of which, I remember owning a Diamond Edge 3D video card with Saturn controller ports to play Battle Arena Toshinden and a few select other Saturn ports. Later, I remember building a parallel port to Saturn controller adapter, but my soldering skills and/or the drivers were too buggy. Anyone here ever get the parallel port adapter to work? It was even supposed to support analog.

EDIT: I found some more information on an Amazon review, NeoGAF forum post, and of course right here on AssemblerGames.

There is pretty much no other USB Sega Saturn controller that is as good as the SLS. I would recommend anyone to avoid any other cheap ones and just use an actual Sega Saturn controller with a USB to PC converter.

Does anyone know where to get adapters to get a Sega Saturn controller to work with Playstation 1&2 ?

I have like 58 of these, The originals are much nicer and you can feel the difference.

I found this link below ages back but here's some pictures of them compared with the original Saturn controller and the USB versions.

    - Update tested on ps2 phat doesn't work
    - Update tested a retrobit sega saturn usb controller on ps2 phat doesn't work

Assembler was spot on. I signed up to receive one of them as well when they launched Play Sega. To bad it turned out to be junk.
