Wow, almost 2 years later and nothing. I have a feeling the OP didn't actually buy a rom ripper. I'm sad I read the entire thread to find out it never concluded.

This Thread went too long without a final conclusion. It obvious that the original poster don't want waste any more time or money on this dev cart and I don't blame him.

Especially when it looked to obviously be just the English version, likely final. Anything interesting would be the JP version if we're talking early stuff. Gotta commend him for having kept the motivation for as long as he did, though.

Dumping and knowing for sure would still have been better than a statement from some random internet guy :|

Hi as I am still intrested in comparing the check sum and rom size between the us version of pokémon gold and the cartridge I found I do indeed have the dumping device I brought it awhile ago but I still haven't found a working computer with the port needed even through my cousin has a computer that may or may not be compatible she is busy these days I haven't been over there in a few months I'm likely to buy a cheap working computer with the port and get the Internet reconnected soon as I've been lazy and been buying videogames instead of fixing the issue of NO computer or Internet lolz :p I also have a promo Saturn wall poster thing to show yous when I get back online ! Meanwhile I'm stuck on my phone cause I got angry threw out the laptop out the window and smashed my laptop to pieces with a garden ho it suffered harddrive failure and well I had a crazy moment ! rest assured I will be at least comparing the checksum and rom size of this thing when I can be bothered buying a computer the last one pissed me off haha

Sort by price cheapest first. These are local listings in Sydney, you need to find something [think early pentium 4, maybe pentium 3] that will have the port, thankfully most have pix of the back, and you can always show up and look before you buy.

I understand where you're coming from, since only a japanese cart would have something pre-release on it. It's worth a dump though if it's an english cart, and not just for conservation/interest. An early version may still retain the Celebi events and support for JP-only features, may have internal debug stuff, or other such mischief.

At the least, it would be fun to poke around the localization and see what changed in editting.

Yeah, I'd definitely dump it to see whether it's different from retail.

If you need a parallel port, why not just buy a PCI-E one?

Hrm... That looks interesting. The only thing, like everyone else has said, is getting the dump of it and comparing checksum sizes.

Meh. They're just carts to be used at trade shows, I doubt that they're any different to the kiosk demos.

I get that they're highly sort after because of the popularity of the series, but they're hardly rare.

I think I've got Silver and a Ruby ones *somewhere* (or they may be proper kiosk demos with the NFR label).

    Edit:
I've got them catalogued as "Kiosk Demos", so they're likely retail carts with the "Not For Resale" label.

They definitely used these GBC flashcarts for Pokemon Gold/Silver kiosk demos at stores here in Australia. Although I had no understanding of what they actually were, I wanted one so much, simply because it was an oversized GBC cart.

If you're still after a dumper grab a Joey Squinson from Benn Venn, it uses a standard micro usb connection.
