Is this a Prototype Cart ????

no its not its a third party flash card.

 

you sure ? i cannot find any flashcard like this one and doubt its third party it says Nintendo all over the thing

 

Someone here should know if Nintendo made a GBC development flash card. The did have them for N64 so GBC is possible. Also the fact that the sticker says DMG MBC3, 16M Flash supports that perhaps it is legit. I don't think any flash carts made by bung or others would say that or attempt to be one particular board, they usually want to be something that supports more than 1 mapper type.

 

I have never seen one like this, but it doesn't look like a third party one to me. Where did you get it from and when?
Also, did you notice any differences from the retail game? Try pressing select on the title screen?

 

I still dont have a retail copy of the game to compare it with but i will get around to ordering one in a couple of weeks .. i found this in a pawn brokers shop and knew instantly it was not a normal cartridge. ive been asking on other forums about this but getting so little in answers so you think its a GBC development flash cart ? or is it something else it has pokemon gold on it but i currently dont have a retail version of the game to compare it with

as far as differences go i have yet to play it much i only have tested it to see if its working so far but i shall charge my SP up and give it a go today and look for any major bugs etc

 

I do think it is a GBC development flash cart, but it's hard for me to say for sure without actually playing around with it.
But seriously, if pushing select brings up nothing at the title screen, you could try pressing random buttons (hold some, press others at the same time) in the overworld and see if a debug menu pops up. I don't think you would find bugs in a localized non-debug version.

 

how rare are these things ??? i have yet to find another one like this searching google and ive been searching for 3 days ! and yep i will definitely try to press some buttons i might even put it into my gbc =)

 

Depends on what it is, but it may be worth several hundred bucks if it really is a prototype.
The cart itself... I would guess maybe up to $150.

It's hard to tell really. The thing that bugs me is lack of a dip switch to select rom size for games (almost always have a dip bank to select smaller sizes)

It also lacks the standard nintendo white data label.

Now it could be special for the last gen games, sort of like the pokemon pinball
eprom carts I have. Those have a set size.

Only nintendo uses the "DMG" internal label system.

The key is to open it and look at the design, the chips will be all
NUS or NOJ chips.

 

Intresting do the chips have that written on them cause i dont know how to tell the difference between chips

 

The will be nintendo chips. just set your camera to macro mode (flower icon) and open it with a screwdriver and snap pics of the board.

havent got a screwdriver small enough ill try get one today but i can make out some of the chips one says MBC3 A F-2 015U75 another says 6735 9100 cant see the other 2 bigger chips without a screwdriver s=

No it's not rare.

The only thing that is valuable is the game on it. If it's a real cart, then it is valid and
the game needs to be dumped and compared to the retail game.

Then it might be worth money.

Odds are it's been reflashed with a retail game, but on the small chance it's a demo or beta of the game
you need to start by seeing if it's a real dev cart.

If it's just a dev cart it's worth maybe $75 (flashed with retail game)

If it has an actual work build of pokemon it's worth more.

As the pokemon games were made in Japan, and the menu looks english, it's probably a play test copy
and is a no different from retail.

1. Take board pics or else this is a pointless discussion at this point
2. Take menu pictures and video of the main menu and see if it's different than the final.

Once you've done that people can help. If you're hoping for someone to tell you
you've hit the jackpot and will be making a billion bucks, you're in the wrong place.

Ok it's a real cart.

Now you need to compare it to the retail game. Find the rom online and compare the menu, the first are and dialogue.

Try at the start menu various button combinations for a debug menu.
