Is softmodding possible without a game or opening the XBOX?

    Hey guys. Finally found a working cord for my XBOX, but know I want to know, can I softmod without a game or opening the XBOX?

    I asked if I could do it WITHOUT a game, and WITHOUT opening the XBOX. (hotswapping)

    Alright then. It's just hard to find a decent copy of Splinter Cell and a USB converter in New Zealand without waiting a month.
    Once it took me 2 months to get a Kinect adapter.

    I was told about flashing it using a router. But the guy was full of shit so I dunno if this claim was true as well.

    It won't take a month to get the game, the cable maybe but I usually get stuff from Hong Kong in about 2 weeks. You don't need Splinter Cell only, you might find AUF locally.

    @GoH: Flashing by a router is a modchip thing I believe.

    Flashing with a router ? Only Microsoft can do that without hacking and they use a special signed boot disc with a client program for that. At the factory ... (It's how they would upload the harddrive contents to the unit at the factory, mind you)

    games that can be used to load custom code:

    splinter cell
    007 agent under fire
    MechAssault

    there may be others but these are the ones that are most common, and easily found.

    if you're going to go to the trouble of softmodding it, why not open it up and stick a bigger hard drive in it? 8/10gb aint alot for a softmodded console ;-)
