  1. Welcome to the ASSEMblergames Highscore Competition #2. The game to be played for this round is the Gameboy classic, Tetris.

The competition will last five days, beginning at 1:45am PST (GMT-8) Tuesday and going to 1:45am on Sunday. The object is obviously to score as high as possible in the given time.

Game settings are to be as follows:
    A-Type Game
    Beginning Level: 0

If you happen to have a video/still capture card on your computer and the proper console equipment, please play the game on a Super GameBoy unit or a Gameboy Player unit, and take a screenshot of your score at game over. Photos taken by digicam are also accepted if the score, lines and level are legible. Pictures aren't required, but they go a long way in making claimed scores believeable. Please keep pictures to a decent size or they will be deleted.

Along with your picture (if possible) please post your score, lines cleared, and level when you had a game over. If you score higher than your previous post while the contest is still running, please edit your original post and replace the screenshot/score details - this will help keep the thread from getting too bloated. Pictures can be hosted at http://www.imageshack.us if you have no other means of doing so.

    Good luck!

First few goes weren't too good (one knockout at 30 >_<), but this run was ok - nice neat score at least ;)
Played on an emulator as I don't have a GB handy - as if you can't tell.

Heres my best effort so far: Pic from Gameboy advance SP

EDIT: Just to check, are we going for highest score or most lines?
EDIT2: Higher Score, worse pic: sScore 59331, lines 106

  4. Highest score, definately - it IS the ASSEMbler Highscore Competition, after all. ;)

And although it's not a requirement, feel free to post the actual pics on the page if you want, as well.

  5. Alright, here's my first (weak) effort:
    Score: 42637
    Level: 7
    Lines: 78

I just discovered that my composite cable won't easily reach the computer without a good deal of moving equipment, so I'll treat you with a very blurry picture courtesy of the POS PalmPix camera:

Sorry, I was too tired/lazy to get my brother's camera and copy it on to the PC last night, but why would i lie about something like this? It's hard enough to *see* anything on the GBA screen (I have a non-SP one), never mind taking pictures of it! I'll attempt doing that next time, though.

Here's what I got so far:

    Score: 78,316
    Level: 9
    Lines: 96

And I thought I suck at the game! I always go totally arseways within a minute of going into level 9.

I tried playing it again just now, but I got nowhere near as good, and my eyes are killing me now. I guess that what happens when you're doing C programming for 6 hours straight... I could barely walk after that!

I've also remembered how Tetris really isn't the kind of game I can play regularly, or for longer than half an hour. So... annoying...!

Question: I have Tetris Worlds. Am I allowed to play the Classic Tetris as an option?

  9. I'm just going to say no, as I'm not sure if it uses the same scoring and level system as the classic one - sorry. :( However, you should be able to pick up a GB copy super cheap at any local EB, Gamestop, Game Crazy, or even local thrift stores like Goodwill.

Or you can go to my crappy local GameStop and pay 12 Euro for it totally unboxed!

I know no one is going to believe this without a picture (no digi cam, or system capture), but my highest score was about 288, 500 or so a couple of years ago...

I was without any systems to play when my parents had taken all of the consoles away (grounding). But, found that I still had an original blocky Gameboy and original Tetris, so I played it straight for two weeks or so, and on a road trip with a couple of friends during that period, that was roughly what I scored (288,000 sticks out in my mind, but the last three digits I can't remember). I can't remember the level, but definitely in the high 20s. Since then, most of my friends refer to me as the Tetris master or guru when talking about games.

And on a sidenote, the number of lines don't matter as much as the points. The less lines one uses to get more points is actually better. For example, if one scores a tetris (4-lines as once) compared to 4-lines individually, the score mutiplier is a lot more, so you have more points for the same amount of lines with a tetris.

    *GASP*

I will get mine out tonight! The best score I got was somewhere in the 90,000's range, but I'll see how well I do now.

Level 20? I thought it didn't go any higher than 9? Or maybe I can just never get past 9...

Type B is the dancing russians guys with the tight music--beat it on level 9. When one gets 100,000 or more in Type A the rocket appears for ones pleasure : )

And the connector pins were so dirty on the cart I could barely even play it! I guess they don't know about the wonders of isopropyl alcohol...
