Something else that needs attention, my hatch stoppers.

Another annoying known fault with the Supra, especially series 1 the stoppers (mainly the lower) dry up and no long cushion the hatch. Every vibration causes a annoying rattle, scratching sound. Over bumpy roads are the worst! I usually have my music blaring just to cover up the sound, but I can still it over the loud music hah.

Toyota redesigned the stoppers, likely being the compound they're made out of. Good thing, shape is the same and so are the mounting holes.
Only real kick in the dick is the process of replacing them. The screws that hold the lower stoppers are 'loctited in' 246 blue to be accurate, this involves heating the compound through the head of the screw with a soldering iron. Before you can do that you have to cut the old stoppers out which I'll likely cut myself in the process, anyway I will be attempting this tomorrow.

Cold weather is approaching and finally made space in the garage to put the Supra to bed at night :)

If you have good access and no rust you probably won't even need to heat up the bolt. Loctite Blue is easily removable. I put it on lots of stuff and never have any problem removing it.

    Use Air Dryer LOL.

JK, but using solder wouldn't be somewhat messy?

Gave it a shot today, the screw didn't turn at all. Even with heat, didn't want to keep at it otherwise I'll round the head of the screw. Any more tips?

Oh it a screw, not a socket? Boo. Any corrosion on it? That's gonna be tricky. Normally for stubborn sockets I put some PB Blaster or WD40, but for a screw it will just make it worse since it'll be slippery.

I say just keep patiently try to remove it. I'm not sure heating will help because it'll make the head softer, making it easier to strip.

Worst comes to worse and you do strip it, get one of those stripped screw removers, attach it to a cordless drill and it'll come out with no damage to anything.

Don't have any of the set of these tools. I might see if my mechanic can just extract the screws for me. I'll install the rest myself.

How are tool stores in Australia, do they have like a Home Depot, Lowes, or Sears equivalent? You gonna need a large set of tools soon. The deeper you get into the car hobby, the larger the tool chest gets. lol

    Be a cassowary breeder.

But don't worry, a set of tools won't cost another car, i guess...

Or, it's a nice OEM touch directly from the factory, and it fits the vehicle and when it was made.

Your comment makes you look like you think the car was made in 2016. Gold badges are 100% period and are OEM on this example of Supra. Nothing tacky here. Move along.

Good thing you didn't buy the car.

    What he said!

Sorry to not see your question, it's never too late!

MK4 depending what model do not go for insane amount. For example a base SZ you could probably get one for around $7-$8,000. Aerotop around 10-14,000 depending on condition. SZ-Rs around the same price as an Aerotop. It's the RZ and GZ is mostly where the value is 18,000 and up. That's for JDM Spec Supras which is mostly what's around Australia.

A few have said my Supra is one of the cleanest out there for an SZ. At first I didn't believe this but after seeing some others I don't doubt it.

Honda offered this in 1997-1998 for the new civic at the time, at least on Brazil, even the grille could be in gold like paint.

I prefer to keep all parts like this factory oem. Things get tacky when people start stray away from original parts.

The Supra here is extremely rare to see being sold here in Brazil, and they always want R$180.000,00 (50k USD) or higher, even the MK3 is way cheaper althrough even more rare, the last one i saw on sale was R$40k (11K USD), the SC400 cost around 35-60 (10-17k USD).

Ironically, there is an cheap way here to have an 2jz, buy an first gen GS300 as they cost R$25-30k (7,5-9k USD).
