Find a good old external cd-burner and hold onto it forever. Those are harder and harder to find and you will need it for retrogaming!

    I disagree.

Good modern burners can be found, you just need to do your research. You also need to pair writer with media its known good with - I have 4 different writers which cover all the media I use.

Bad_Ad84 is right. My modern laptop's DVD-RW drive worked perfectly with Dreamshell and Sonic CD (for testing purposes). I had to use ImgBurn though. I used Verbatim Digital Vinyl CD-Rs and they work perfectly. Some drives and CD-Rs are good and some are terrible.

What was the problem and how did you ended up fixing it?

Turns out it was either a issue with his burner and his discs he was using, or both

Pioneer make good burners (choice of xbox 360 users it seems).. Find a good new one and just get an external caddy for it :)

Here is one for laptop drives: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Portable...28?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item1e96ef4488

Other option is buy any old full sized external drive and convert it to SATA..

Seconding this, I've been using Pioneer dvd burners for over a decade and never had any burn errors.

Well, getting an old one is maybe not important, but there's a lot of shitty new ones. I got a crw-f1 a few years back and it consistently burns everything I throw at it fine. When I use any other of my external burners, I get static instead of audio on Saturn games, with lot of extra seeking.

I use the Pioneer (BDR-209M) + Taiyo Yuden combo and perfect burns everytime.

ATAPI iHBS112 + Verbatim (old Taiyo yuden) works fine for me since years, with every modchip on every console.

have modded a few saturns with phantom chip, i think its a really great chip !
i myself got an older SSIC8B where you always have to open the lid and close it again, so that it recognizes a burned disc.
sometimes there are jumpers on the chips like 014 - 0 - 019 where you have to connect either 014 - 0 or 0- 019 depending on which saturn model you've got. if the wrong one is jumpered, it will always recognize a burned game as an audio cd.
