gscartsw: automatic 8:1 SCART-RGB switch

I realized why just now - there is a setting in the XRGB to take audio from AV instead of through RGB. I just changed it and just using the red/white to 3.5 cable and now JP21 connection, I heard audio.

I myself often want to utilize front RCA audio inputs while in RGB mode and somehow I didn't really look into that option.

 

I can not remember setting up this option. Every time I plug in audio to the front RCA, the RGB audio is shut down. Works great for my setup and the noise is almost gone.

 

I've just checked it, it's "MENU / AUDIO_SET / RGB_AUDIO", you can toggle between "RGB" and "AUDIO" there. By default it's "RGB" (firmware v2.03)
No autodetection for me.

 

So even doing the 3.5 audio and setting the XRGB to only put out the audio from the red/white inputs, I still get a louder buzz. With the aid of my friend, I completely removed the audio wires. I still get a louder buzz. I then removed the AV Control, YM and YS and I still get the louder buzz. If I have the male/male cable disconnected, the second it touches the female JP21 socket on the mini-DIN cable (with the other end in the output spot on the gscartw), the buzz gets louder. R,G,B, sync and all grounds are the only thing connected now in the cable. Continuity between all lines was double-checked before the cable was sent out.

I guess the cable is just a dud? My friend is going to make a new cable with different materials, so we'll see what happens.

When I set up my Framemeister with the gscartsw I updated to 2.03a. Maybe they added auto detect there.

 

Yes you can enable scart output on a ntsc-u wii running homebrew.

And what I think you're saying is that the ps2 doesn't use RGsB which is strange because I can see how it was RGBS (using the s cable in this vid) but they call it RGsB.

I don't think you understand anything from what I've said. It's obvious that PS2 outputs RGsB when in 480 progressive mode, that's Sony's way of making things non-standard.
RGBS - 4 wires, Red Green Blue Sync
RGsB - 3 wires, Red GreenWithMixedSync Blue
The proper way is to split Gs to two lines one of which will be clean Green and other one clean Sync [480p mode] and use PS2 composite output for other modes.

 

Definitely something is wrong. Another thing to mention is that you really don't have to interconnect all the grounds in male JP21 connectors. From switch side one ground connection is enough, from JP21-MiniDIN side it should be the same but you can disassemble it and see where ground pin is taken from, but usually they interconnect all grounds inside female JP21 connectors.

 

I'm all for a spirited debate and all, but I think it might be unwise to argue output capabilities with the guy that makes the switch we're all buying on the basis that it's literally the best SCART gaming switch that's ever been made. So maybe that.

 

Use a Wii RGB SCART cable; It will boot in all red, but you'll still be able to navigate the menus. Then launch USB Loader and force PAL modes. After the game launches, it will be in color and running properly. This will also work for emulators that can force PAL modes.

 

Oh, that I know, but it's all software. I would rather have it set up system-wide. The thing is I don't feel like spending weeks hacking through nintendo OS firmware packages to find that proper way of system initialization.

Getting homebrew up and running on the wii is extremely simple.

Also if anyone is getting the impression we are arguing I was in no way intending to sound agitated or insulting. I just wanted to know if you could make it so I could play some of my favorite consoles in 480p scart without needing yet another powered device.

 

Let's put it this way: if your WII is capable of outputting 480p RGB signal - the switch will forward it just fine, I don't see any problem with that.

 

Hi, I`ve got a problem with pre-ordering. On the site it`s said limits raised and available. But I can`t pre order cause PayPal says "item sold out"...

I want to hook up my Dreamcast, but I don't want to use VGA. So, I have done some research, and just wanting to confirm that what I want to do is possible.

Get a Dreamcast scart cable, this would go into the Gscartsw. Now as I understand it it should be possible to send 480p through the scart cable by simply grounding pin 6 of the Dreamcast av out port. Of course there are some games that do not support 480p so my intention would be to fit a switch to the Dreamcast so I can toggle sending ground to pin 6. That way the Dreamcast can be set to either send 480i (only pin 7 grounded) or 480p (pins 6 and 7 grounded) through the scart cable. So, my questions (given that my above assumptions are correct) can the Gscartsw support 480p over scart? And also does anyone know if the XRGB Mini can support 480p over scart?

Finally, if the Dreamcast is set 480i (just pin 7 grounded) then I'm hoping that I should be able to use the Gscartsw VGA to send the 480i signal to my Sony PVM where I can play lightgun games etc.

I think I have to write with big red capital letters that it can forward 480p. We talked about it just 3 posts above yours.
Also your approach won't work because Dreamcast in VGA mode doesn't provide composite sync.
