It's likely it's the same cable as on Monoprice. 75 ohm is a standard resistance of analog video lines.

I plan to order some JP21 units tomorrow.

 

Question: Are you going to run composite through the component, like yellow to green? My 4k Vizio does this.

My plan, once the SCART switch arrives is to convert the SCART to Component, but I have a few systems that I haven't got the capability of running through RGB and my luck with converting the composite to SCART hasn't worked well. I'd really like to run everything to one input on my CRT. So hypothetically, if I had your SCART unit and the composite/component switch, could I run my converted SCART/component into the soon-to-be project switch along with my NES, TG16CD and N64 through composite into the component switch and plug one set of component jacks into my tv? I've tried that with my Philips component switcher, but it doesn't run composite through component, even though it's got a yellow RCA jack and an S-video jack.

If I can do this, then I'd be interested in the composite/component switch as well.

 

You will be able to run composite through component and vice versa just fine (if you really benefit from that). My Samsung TV also shares one RCA for composite and component signal.
Currently I'm adding 6 RCA jacks (Composite, Y, Pb, Pr, Audio Left, Audio Right) for every input. Composite and Y are separate lines but physically they are exactly the same. Detection will be performed on both using logical "OR". I'm adding both because some people still want to use composite for some of their consoles thus one switch will cover both Composite and Component connectivity.
You'll still have to use your TV remote to switch between Composite / Component though

 

That's what I'm trying to avoid. I just want one channel with everything retro on it. Makes it easier for my wife and child if they want to play.

 

On Samsung you have one RCA receptacle (Yellow/Green) for both Composite and Component, _but_ you have to use the remote to switch between logical composite / component.
Isn't that the case on your 4K Visio?

 

I have no idea. I've only ever used the RCA input on the Vizio for a karaoke machine. Everything else hooked to it is HDMI, and everything other than the XBOX 360 uses HDMI CEC so I only have to change the input if I want to play the 360 or once in a blue moon when we karaoke.

All of my retro systems are running to an old 27" Sony Wega with component/s-video/composite jacks. I'd like to run everything retro to the component input on that TV. That's the TV I would use with your two switches - Everything SCART capable to your SCART switch then to a SCART to YUV converter. Run the Component cables from that into in one input on the new project component switch, NES in another, then TG16CD, and finally N64, then everything component out to the Sony CRT. All one channel.

 

Why you do not add s video too for each input? It will add too much cost or noise to circuit?

For sure, that should work.

 

For 3do because rgb modification is too much complicated to install and for Gamecube because component cable is too much expensive to buy!

 

GameCube: there is open source cable project, very affordable, everything has been reverse-engineered (or you can use PAL GameCube and RGB-SCART)
3DO: I agree that installation is rather complicated, but it seems overkill to make such a switch just because of 3DO. Especially if RGB mod exists.

 

I would definitely recommend getting a PAL Gamecube and installing a XenoGC mod chip to allow you to play US and JAP games. Then you can use RGB Scart.

 

The thing about GameCube component cable is that the signal is progressive. You don't see those interlaced lines in games anymore. But anyways interlaced RGB is still better than composite or s-video.

 

in my opinion, while progressive scan is better, I think its seriously overrated. I can quite happily play games like F-Zero GX on my PVM in 480i without a second thought about component or progressive scan.
If you absolutely must play your Gamecube games in progressive and cant afford component cables. The cheapest option is to just play them on a Wii via component.

 

Thanks for the info! I found the thread about gcvideo here, in Shmups and CG-forever. I started reading all the pages, but do you know if someone already selling this cable? Badassconsoles promises a gcvideo with hdmi out but it´s "coming soon"...

But with RGB I will only get 240p or 480i, right? Of course RGB is better than svideo, but I can get 240p even with svideo using Swiss (modded console). But for 480p it will a whole new story!

 

I was following gcvideo thread for a while but currently I don't know if it's freely available if you can't make one yourself. RGB doesn't define resolution and mode, console does. GameCube can do 480p only from it's digital port as far as I know.
S-Video is better than composite but still inferior to anything else.

 

superg - are you planning on making these 8 x 1 RGB switches for JP-21 connections? If so, can I get on the wait list?
