Is this a normal thing to do?

I'm sat at home bored as hell, some of my mates are caught in a work meeting for the evening (which involves drinking but I can't crash it) and the rest of my mates are otherwise occupied or non responsive.

I really feel like going out for a drink but have nobody to do it with...is it totally lame to do it solo?

    Any tips?

I find it the best way to meet and chat up women, so no its not lame its the only way to have a normal conversation with somebody that isn't a mate and have or have a quite drink and enjoy the view.

When with mates it usually ends up in moron drinking/talking.

Very true i've had nothing but arguments and bust ups recently on group nights out.

I'm not the most confident of people though, not sure I could just randomly approach strangers.

When you are alone they usually approach you, and I don't specifically mean woman but just anybody that is bored as well will end up making some remark or chitchat to start a conversation with you.
Otherwise you can always sit at the bar and strike up a conversation with anybody sitting next to you.

I've been known to go to clubs and strip clubs wasted, never a good idea for my pocket, I'm too generous with my money when im drunk.

I stay well away from strip clubs....spent a bit too much in those places recently.

Sitting at bars in england doesnt really happen sadly...gonna have to stand.

Fancy grabbing a flight over lol.

I had a wingman, he left the country, now I need a new one but there aren't many good candidates to be fair.

I did it last friday, since i was free from work earlier. I was about to just go home, but i ended going to the multiplex and watched District 9 and then had some beers at the local bar.

Still my friends called me and showed up half an hour later.

Honestly i have no problems going out alone, but of course it's better with friends.

I did it in Japan quite often, not sure how I feel about doing it here in Holland though. I mean, my own thoughts when I see someone sitting alone at a bar aren't exactly positive ones..

Simply because you cannot walk to a bar where I live, you always need at least 3 other people. One of them being the DD to drive all the drunks back who didn't hook up with chicks.

It's all a matter of what bar you go to, and what you plan on doing. When I was in London, I went to a quieter little place just to relax with a beer and watch some football, good times.

Fuck it, I'm going for it. Although the potential of meeting up with a few others later is now on the cards, the next few hours could be very awesome or very lonely. Wish me luck.

Sometimes I'll go see a movie by myself, only during the day though when everyone else is working. Or just walk around the mall or whatever. Or just go for a drive. I've never been to a bar by myself though...

Never went to a bar on my own, just wasn't fun. Plus, I liked to hide my alcoholism at home thank you very much. Now just going about town on my own, that's never bothered me much.

Yeah, when there's booze at home, I couldn't think of a better place to be, in my own chair or my own bed just maxing out, watching a movie, reading, gaming, eating.
But then there's very few people that I actually ever want to hang out with, and thus I'm a bit of a recluse.

I live in a small town, so I can go to a bar and usually have friends there.

I go out on my own a lot but don't like to go to bars on my own. i feel rather out of place. You know, people having fun and there I am, Billy no mates drinking on his own. Cool when you do meet someone and start up a good chat but that's not going to happen every time. Drinking with mates I love. I always have a good time.
