Maybe not a "haha that's hilarious" kind of funny, but a "wow, how pathetic" kind of funny. Like sanni pointed out, it the blatant, shameless McDonalds advertisement. It looks so unnatural and forced.

Advertising products like that isn't new, but typically it used to be done in the background of the movie, tv show, game, whatever. Like a character in a sitcom eating Fruit Loops instead of generic cereal, or a Burger King billboard in an urban styled video game. Like this:



There are two product placements in that scene - Eggo waffles, and Mrs. Butterworths. Aside from the "leggo my eggo" reference, there was no mention of either product. I don't remember specifically what happens later in that scene, but I know they didn't sit around talking about the delicious taste of Eggo waffles, or how Mrs. Butterworths is the best tasting syrup you can buy for the cheap price of $2.95 or anything like that. It seemed natural...

I think it's funny because it is about as blatant you can be with advertising. Most shows or movies that have product placement actually engage with the product or mention it in some way, which is almost always cringe-worthy, but at least more believable. Here, the food is just standing there, with people talking in the background. It is like a billboard just sitting there with the image of food. & nobody even seems interested or enticed by it. That's where the humor came for me.

 

So those mushroom things have their dicks on their chests?

 

It's a little old, but I still think it's funny. I had forgotten about it and stumbled upon it somehow.
