More naive comments. It had sod all to do with a high volume of users. We don't have a high volume of users, really. And what good would that do us? We don't have subscriptions and we don't do ads.

It had everything to do with giving someone a chance, someone who was disabled. If you want to discriminate against disabled people because they're socially awkward, then you're making yourself look like a bit of a twat. Ignoring people is how serial killers are born - if people need help, get them the help. Talking of serial killers, there might have been an element of fear of what he could have done, too. Remember the guy with the crappy app? Sure you do. You said this about him...

Some people need to think before they open their mouths. It saddens me that, where I thought we were a tolerant community, there are actually some who think they're in Royston Vasey... "This is a local community for local people - there's nothing for you here!"

The real naivety here stems from

    A. Anybody who thinks assembler hasn't become more commercialized and catering to everyman and his dog.

B.anybody who actually believes you were "getting help" for amiga. "social anxiety" wasn't the problem as opposed to racism and being a dick at point.

Absolutely nothing has been done the past few years despite numerous users citing problems, how to fix them (the massive post images and general space being wasted), and even offering to do it. A higher influx of users is needed for the yearly/monthly fundraisers since the more dedicated users that donated more cash are going away. That and given the fact that nothing has been done or it takes forever for it to be done, people are just gonna quit donating and ads will become a necessity.

You're preaching to the choir on the social anxiety/awkwardness. How many people do you think here have that? How many react like that?

How can a site become commercialized when it offers NO commercial activity? What does Kev sell? Yeah... nothing. Even the T-shirt idea hasn't come to light... and everyone wanted that, anyway! We don't need more users to fund the donation - we need more active users to realize that if they donated $1, we'd get there quicker. Time and time again, the same users donate large amounts. We're not telling people how to donate, or even to donate at all. I'm just saying it would be quicker if several users donated $1 rather than a few donating tens or hundreds.

I don't know why you keep diagnosing Amiga. You're waaay off. Nobody ever said he had social anxiety. What we said was that people need to be more tolerant of members with disabilities. Let's just say he was messed up and probably required more treatment than he was getting. And his racism, which came late in the day (as already pointed out, AFTER he was banned at least once), was the final straw that saw him permanently expelled. We don't tolerate racism. Indeed, a lot of his behaviour that people quote came late in the day - at first, he was posting as if he didn't have a good command of the English language and people were like - sheesh, learn to fucking spell! Your posts are bullshit! How the fuck are we supposed to understand that?! If he had some kind of learning difficulty, or was foreign, how do you think that would make him feel? THOSE were the initial issues with him - not the racism. Unless you're counting everyone else being intolerant of someone who may have been foreign. Then yes, I agree with you - the racism and dickishness was fucking disgusting. I hope those involved are ashamed.

Amiga clearly had some kind of issues: either understanding people, communicating what he meant to others, or both. And it's normal that it pissed people off, especially as he was completely refractory to changing or adapting. "i know I never read his posts .it was so wierdly formatted .impossible to get what he meant clearily ."

I for one tried to be nice and tolerant with him, and while he seemed to appreciate it he did not made any more effort to be readable and communicative. Racism was simply the cherry on top of his ban-deserving sundae.

As for the forums in general, I really think Kev should allow trusted moderators to admin the site and fix some stuff, or hire someone to do that. It's not normal that we have to adblock most of the post counts images and run custom scripts to make posts under 6 inches each. (BTW on chrome, Stylish extension add ".after_content{clear: none !important; }" for this website. I understands he doesn't have the time/formation to fix everything on his own, especially given his health, but it'd be a big plus.

Anyway I love this place, one of the only forums worth checking regularly on the internet imo.

    Rant over,

    FG

Kev once hired someone to do it. They took his money for the upgrade, used a hacked key and got him in trouble for that. And messed up a bunch of stuff. You can understand his hesitance! ;-)

Hopefully, as he's feeling somewhat chirpier, he might get some time to look into things... so long as he doesn't push himself too hard and overdo it. However, I think perhaps vBulletin has run its course. That introduces new problems - like having to pay for a licence to another board upfront in order to play around with it and see if it's any good.

While I prefer others, vbulletin is plenty fine for this site, it just needs someone who knows how to actually adminster it

So, I thought I'd just update here, since I guess most of my funders stick around here (maybe).

I'm still around! Just recovering from being hit by a motorbike. However, I've been working on a GB game demo, written in GBDK using ANSI C. Theres a demo coming soon!

Still waiting for BennVenn's 2nd dumper, as the first was DOA.

Damn! You're not having much luck all round. Hope you're OK. Sounds pretty nasty.

I'd probably suggest making a topic in the Nintendo Game Development forum to post updates on your demo.

I suffer from social anxiety, but I don't abuse others and convince myself I'm the only one who's correct.

It was not any of our choice to leave him here for months, ASSEMbler wanted to and I'm sorry but we cannot go back on the owner's words.

Nothing wrong with Twitter. It's a great marketing tool and helps boost SEO. As a personal thing, it's good for communicating with companies, sharing thoughts and interesting links, finding said interesting links, and randomly conversing with like-minded people. It's funny how open people are to random conversation on Twitter. If you walked up to someone in the street who had made a statement to a friend, they'd probably tell you to piss off and mind your own business - the same on some other websites, too. Twitter users don't tend to mind, though!

Twitter is dumb and nothing will change my mind... specially now with all the (often real life) harassment you can get with an off color joke (or any kind of post, really) because of some oversensitive person you never met...
This is specially true nowadays with all that gamergate dumbassery. Why can't people just go play some R-Type II and chill instead of fighting over software a bunch of salaryman in a cramped office made.

That really depends on how you use it. If you're going to have the attitude that "they're not real people, I can be an idiot" then you deserve it. If you're going to post risqué humour, especially where the tone can't be conveyed in text, then you should probably expect someone to be opposed. You won't get comments as per your illustration unless you incite criticism... and you probably need to use popular tags even to get seen! Use it as a business tool, or a friendly social network and it's fine.

I had this happen earlier. The deal breaker involved making an extra stop for gas.
