As I approach 10 years, a baby compared to some, so many members I miss. You should have been here 5 years earlier Bad_Ad84, this place was the shit. Now, not as much of the 'the'....

    What he said...

    QFT man. QFT.

I love this community, don't get me wrong. It makes me remember my days on the BenHeck forums, with people such as PalmerLuckey and Marshallh.

However, there seems to be not much "lee-way" when it comes to things. Some people here are really nice, some of them take everything too seriously, and some of them won't listen to reason/ideas.

I guess it's the way that the cookie crumbles.

I disagree. The only reason the site is so well maintained is because of the mods, and without them we would no doubt have a lot of trolls, spambots, and bad behaviour. All of the locked threads I've seen have been completely justified and sensical, as they've either been requested to be locked by the OP who created them or they've been bumped from several years in sleep.

One of the issues right now, in my opinion, is that there really is little going on compared to in the past. I try not to spam all the things that Im discovering in the unreleased forum, but things are just super slow here.

We were told to take action for a few things here.

Most threads we've locked have been arguments getting out of hand, sales threads which most of the time we get PM'd to lock. People honestly don't read the damn rules or even stick to them.
Retro and I just take more auction, take rules more seriously. ASSEMbler told us to take more action towards them in the first place.
I've also been merging a lot of posts which are just triple posts and so on, which don't need to happen. Whole point of the edit button right? A forum with rules for post counts in the marketplace we can't have triple posts leading up to that 50.

Borman, is right anyway, forums are lot more slower than what they used to be.

So which threads have upset you so much that are locked right now? If you have issues with us, PM us. I don't know what I've done that's so bad.

I do get along with you Bad, and you've helped me in the past a hell of a lot. Sadly, what you see in the end is the end result. We don't go on a locking spree, or banning spree. We discuss outcomes in a "behind the scenes" thread. Take note of that.

I agree with what you're saying HEX1GON. I'm sure we all appreciate the hard work you guys do. It's all to keep this forum safe, and to continue having a high level of quality content. The Mods are here for a reason, and you all do a great job.

Obviously, I was pretty upset when my thread was moved and locked, and accusations were implied against me, so I PMed the mod responsible. Unfortunately, it turned into an argument (sorta, but not really), and was told to stop before I get banned.

I just think that these types of issues should be handled via PM on BOTH sides. Users should not call mods out, and mods shouldn't call users out (without atleast PMing them first).

Obviously having my thread locked, moved, and having a mod call bullshit on me, and ask why I don't post the fundraiser on some other site, etc etc etc (among other things stated within the thread), hurts my credibility and exposure to my thread (as it was done publicly). If this was handled via PM, things could be discussed better.

I would have been fine if someone PMed and showed a level of respect, rather than assuming I'm trying to release these publicly, and implying things against me (which causes an argument) that the public can see. If this was handled via PM in a professional manner, instead of assuming I'm guilty of something without proving it, then the problems wouldn't have arose.

I shouldn't have to PM a mod and inquire. A mod should PM me upon closure, or before closure of my thread (and before bringing this problem into the eye of the public).

I know that there's some lack of communication between the mods here, and this hurts the community. I asked a mod if I could post it, and got a response that was different than the general rules stated. This then creates a conflict, and it seems like I'm being punished for just doing what I was allowed to. I do admit, that I could have better worded my statement aswell, but miscommunication happens. I meant no harm or bad intent, when creating my thread, and I stand by that.

There's so much of this argument that was done via PM after I pmed the mod, rather than the mod PMing me first. Obviously, I won't talk about these in public, but if another mod wants to see my side of the story before raining judgment on me, then feel free to PM me.

I must say though, no hard feelings. I'm not mad at anyone, I just want to be able to run my thread, and not feel like I'm seen as ignorant, or a scammer or something. (I'm simply passionate for my project.). A community grows from getting input, so that's what I'm doing here. I enjoy being here.

EDIT: What I'm trying to get at, is that both mods and users should be responsible for their actions. It supposedly takes 2 to tangle/argue. If I get a ban threat when replying/stating my side of the story/arguing, then the mod should also get something of that sort when doing the same. Same goes for if a user calls a mod out, and vice versa. Obviously that's not a good thing. If there's people fighting, both of them need a stern warning. Not just 1 person. It takes 2.

Sorry about your thread Lyth. As much as I don't agree with how it was handled at the moment, and you were not trying to cause any harm either.
As of right now, I'm not sure what's going to happen. I'm sure whenever ASSEMbler can make it to a PC he will figure it all out. It's above my head at the moment, I'm trying to have an understanding of the conversation at the moment you had with retro.

You shouldn't be banned for what you did, I think there is a major misunderstanding with what happened. I even didn't know about the fundraiser rule myself. As you'd recall I liked the project you were going ahead with.

Thanks HEX1GON. Hopefully it'll get sorted soon.

EDIT: It hasn't been resolved in favor of me.

However, I will mention: I don't understand why I can't link downloads to Chinese bootlegs (that I dump), but people can link downloads to wares/roms (64DD roms for example), prototypes, show ownership of current items that are rightfully owned by Nintendo (and request assistance for these things that are property of Nintendo), etc.

Surely, these bootlegs are older than a good amount of content that's linked on this site. I'm not trying to be rude. I'm actually curious.

(It's my understanding that I may link to the games that were shown in the thread, when they are dumped, but none other than that. Considering I've already selected more to purchase, with donation money, it'd be nice to link these as well. Pretty much, I'd like to link any bootleg GB game that I dump. Some of these are quite scarce.)

I can't see the issue of sharing the bootlegs.. Everything shared is responsibility of the uploader.
It's just for the obvious no shit sharing of commercial games.

There were fully custom Playstation bootlegs shared not so long ago, so it shouldn't be different to your GB dumps.

Fully custom Playstation bootlegs? Were they shared here and if so where?
Never mind I need to wake up and learn how to look around through sections better.

I would like to know the reason for this as well, as I donated to this cause and would like to see it come to fruition. Seems kinda odd how it was immediately locked, and seemingly attacking the person attempting to acquire and dump the games.

It wasn't immediately locked, as fair as I'm aware it left open for some time. It was locked by retro as staff were discussing the matter further on.

The reason was in public view, but Lyth requested the thread to be deleted. Like I said in my post you quoted, the user sharing content is completely their responsibility, it's blatant piracy which is against the rules. Sharing prototypes and such media is a grey area, some users get letters/emails from publishers requesting data to be removed from public download and so on.

From my understanding, the donations were for the reader/dumper. However donations were left open for games, this looked like Lyth wanted people to fund his collection. Which would be against the rules for donations. I simply suggested that he being 'Lyth' to change the OP to "no longer taking donations, however if you want to fund my project further please PM me for donation details".

I might be a bit wrong on this matter and retro would be able to explain a bit better. He really went into depth about this via PM to Lyth.

So long story short, Lyth requested the thread to be deleted as the conclusion was shared publicly.

For clarity, I did not take part in the locking, deleting or any action to be taken on this thread. So simply don't take frustration out on me because I'm also a moderator.

The frustration shouldn't be completely taken out on you, but you are kind of part of the network. The mods are supposed to work together to form solutions to problems so as to not be so segregated.

I requested it to be deleted, as the mod who locked it and such did not remove the posts that made me seem like I was acting in bad faith. Also, upon the conclusion of the investigation, I was told to edit the thread to make it only for getting donations for the dumper. The dumper was provided free to me, so that means the thread would have no purpose.

However, I have PMed every participant in the thread, and linked them to my website that is now hosting the project. I would like to have some clarification if I could link that in my dump thread, so users could be directed there to donate to the cause, read about the project, and download further dumps (which werent mentioned in my thread). Please let me know.

My intent was not to further my collection, as I have no need to collect these carts. However, I have a need and want to dump these carts and make them available to everyone to play and enjoy.

I do believe that dumps should be allowed to be hosted/linked here, as prototypes are as well. A prototype is a game, although it's unfinished. A dump is also a game. I'd imagine that there's more of a stigma related to releasing unfinished games rather than completed ones. So, if someone can clarify on this as well, please do.

At the very least, I want to link the dumps of the games mention in my thread, here (on ASSEMbler games). That way I can fulfill my agreement that I had with the donators. I would also like to link my project here (which is now hosted on another website), so that curious individuals can be directed there. That way, this forum is not associated with the dumping of more games/further donations, incase the mods are worried about liability. So, let me know please.

I do want to officially apologize to all of the donators for the issues this thread has caused. However, I want to fulfill my agreement to all of you, and give others a chance to participate in sharing the word, donating, downloading the dump and taking interest.

This is not a company with people staffed at desks.

It's people in pubs, at work, taking a piss, etc.

People seem to forget that. There's no staff 24/7 it's just people nudging the cart back on the track whenever they have a free moment.

To clarify on that situation with Lyth...

    • Lyth, you were never threatened with banning. I suggested not continuing to rant as you were at first (it's understandable) and you calmed down - I thank you for that.
    • If you see it as an attack on your character... well, I'm sorry, but you need to grow a thicker skin
    • The reason the thread was locked is that Lyth said to ASSEMbler "I have some bootleg games, I cannot afford a dumper. Can I fundraise?" ASSEMbler said yes. Lyth then posted a fundraiser saying he wants a dumper, he has bought a few games and has several more on reserve for which he needs money... and can get loads more. Lyth misled ASSEMbler.
    • Consequently, if the post I made was an attack on Lyth's character, it was his own doing and somewhat justified.
    • There are rules for fundraising. Lyth - sorry you didn't see them, but they're there in black-and-white in the Rules Forum - it's the first forum on the site ;) These rules state you need a duration for a fundraiser - you can't carry on indefinitely.
    • Lyth doesn't seem to appreciate this, but there's a difference between saying "there's a really rare unreleased game on eBay - let's buy this one game together and dump it" and "I want to dump undumped bootlegs. They're cheap games, but I can't afford them. Please buy me a collection and I'll share digital copies."
    • Lyth insisted he wasn't profiting out of this. If you get $100 and spend it on $100 worth of games, then give out the ROM files - you're left with $100 worth of games. The argument that dumping devalues them is pretty poor when it comes to bootlegs - they're worth sod all in the first place! Even if it halved the value, you're left with $50 worth of games that you can either keep or sell. YOU HAVE PROFITED.
    • I copied the moderators in on EVERY SINGLE PM, just for your information Lyth. As you well know, the decision was made between all of us, as a team.
    • This is a verbatim copy of what ASSEMbler told me to do: "Reinstate it and state that he was given permission to raise funds for the reader only. If anyone wants to donate to him they must do it by sending him a PM and that the site has no involvement past the fundraiser for the reader."
    • Lyth then got upset with this resolution, spat his dummy and asked for the thread to be deleted. So it was.

As I had made clear in the thread before Lyth insisted it was deleted, the release can still happen elsewhere. Just upload to Mega and PM those who donated - no problem.

I also suggested that it would be far better to create a community of Chinese bootleg collectors, who can then say "hey - you buy Fu Kin Shite and I'll by Gee Dis Sux... then we'll dump them." You buy one, he buys one, someone else buys one... and you all get 3 games. If you want the item for your personal physical collection - bloody well buy it yourself! It's what the rest of us do. Those of us who buy Neo Geo games pay FORTUNES in comparison with a $10 bootleg.

And yes, people don't see what goes on behind the scenes. Bad_Ad - we impose the rules for a reason. And you only had a problem with our moderation methods since we wouldn't immediately ban a user you disliked. As you saw from that example, we try to be lenient where possible but it doesn't always work.

Incidentally, ASSEMbler never told us to give 24 hours to correct a post, e.g. no validation photo - that's a courtesy we offer. What fucking Nazis, eh? ;-)

(Oh yeah, and I've never brought up the popular thread selling chips that doesn't have validation photos for every item, which is a REQUIREMENT, because I like and respect the poster and thought I'd give him some leeway as it's a popular thread and you can only look at so many chips heh - how fucking callous of me. Nor the fact that his "dropboxusercontent" photo links are blocked by Google on Chrome - stupid Google, it's a picture!)

    Hi Retro,

I think it's important to state that you got hot-headed during the issue as well (especially with your use of caps lock for replying to me).

I also think you should clearly note that your quote of you claim for me to have said, is definitely paraphrasing. ""I have some bootleg games, I cannot afford a dumper. Can I fundraise?" is not verbatim of what I said. It's important to get all of the facts right, and quote someone properly when representing your side of the story.

Also, it's pretty unprofessional, and rude to state that if you attacked me, it was my own fault. Considering, what I did was an accident, and all. Maybe you didn't mean this to come off as rude. Hopefully you didn't. It's easy to overlook on how these things can be interpreted.

I admit I did not see the rules, however, others (including other mods here) have also stated they did not see the rules. Maybe the mods should see the rules that they're enforcing. ;)

I appreciate what you guys do here, I really do. However, I don't appreciate you thinking that bootleg's hold no value. In fact, they're pretty damn rare and sought after.

I do think it's pretty rude that you keep trying to convince others that I'm trying to collect these for my own personal collection. I'm not. There, I said it. I'm pretty sure I know what I want/need, more than anyone else does. That's common sense.

Lastly, regarding profits. Let's say a game costs $10, and someone donates $10 for me to dump it and buy it. All of the $10 has then gone to buying that game. Then, I have to do the task of dumping it. This isn't a 5 second job. It can take multiple hours, especially when dealing with games that have protection, and a different MBC than retail games. 1 hour of my time is worth more than $10, as is anybody's on this forum (hopefully). Sure, I would still have the physical cartridge, but I would have spent 100% of the funds on that cart, and many man/labor hours worth more than the carts cost to dump it. I tried to explain this to you, but you didn't seem to understand that time = money. Hopefully this clears it up. (10 - 10 = 0. 0 - 50 (5 hours of labor) = -50 aka, not profiting). (Not to mention, after a long thought process, it's been decided that the carts will be sold after dumping, to then buy more carts with. Reduce, reuse, recycle.)

From the words of my girlfriend who has a masters in mathematics: Ownership of something does not mean profit. It means an asset. Asset != profit.

(Also, it seems you've made a logical fallacy regarding the value of the games. You state they are worthless/sod, but then state I'd be left with $50 worth of games that I could sell or keep. Either they are worthless, or they are worth something. It can't be both.)

No hard feelings. There's a mirror of the content in the thread, and all of the donators/thread participants have been linked to it. No harm, no foul.

I admit that I did some things wrong, however they were all unintentional/accidental. Hopefully you can admit that you did some things wrong too, Retro. Maybe they were an accident, but it still should be said. Both of us acted wrongly in this situation, but never meant harm. Now I've said it, hopefully you will.

I know this is the free voice thread, but this'll be the last time that I respond about this matter. I'll keep my eye on this to see replies regarding it, but if you wish to contact me about it directly, please PM.
