Hi everyone I don't know if anyone has heard, Nintendo has released a new wii model called "Wii Mini" which is only exclusive in Canada.

Sounds like a waste of money.

    No wifi or Ethernet plug

    No SD card slot

and cannot use a component cable only an av cable!

    Here is the review

    That's a bunch of shit.
No GC, no WiFI, no SD slot, no network support of ANY KIND, no 480P, no component!
GC style disk loading is a plus for me.

    Total fail!

I do find naming it the 'Mini' when it appears to be the same if not slightly bigger in size an awful breach of marketing code, though - even if they've designed it to look like a folding Game 'N' Watch.

EDIT: Removed statement directed at Sonicdude, as I mostly just misread his criticisms.

Wonder how much of the "removed" features still have connections on the mobo.

So it's like a famiclone of the Wii, made by Nintendo itself? Shame really.

If they were smart, they could kept this on sale for a very long time.

They probably have a contract they have to honor on chips or drives, so they kicked this out.

Do you think these will become rare in the future? Given that it's a Canada-exclusive and no real gamer will want one?

In other words: Is it recommended to go out, buy 5 of them and put them in a VGA-asshole-box?

Look at original price of the mini nes, $90. They sell nib for $350 now. It's been almost 15+ years....

The problem is I don't see the wii being as beloved as the NES.

So let's look at a sort of popular system... gamecube. New, $200.... new in box now? $200... ouch. Minus ebay fees? You're losing money.

Get one clearance when they are $50 but don't expect it to be a Jewel in the collection

The only minor problem with a GameCube towards the end was the lack of a digital port. The damn cable runs you an easy $80 if you're lucky so there isn't a huge problem there.

The problem with this is that you're looking at something that plays Wii games and does absolutely nothing more. Might as well buy a broken Wii.

Hmmmm, not sure about the rest of u, but Looking from a collector point of view. This bugger may have a short release as wii system slowly ease out to make way for Wii U.
Which means that this bugger even though have crappy specs, may be valuable in time to come. There is no release in Asia (for me), thus i am very very tempted to import one (Sealed) and be kept away in my treasure chest~

If I find one locally used, I may buy it if it's cheap from a dissatisfied kid. Like $30 cheap.

You never know about it being rare- I mean from Japan, that's been done before, but Canada is this whole new place for "rare" hardware revisions.
It's close to the US though, so maybe not.

I see plenty of imports to US if this stays in Canada...

Hell, I MAY even get one just to keep in my closet for 15+ years down the road...

I can already see super small Wii handhelds being made from this if someone figures out how to get Homebrew on it and use a Wii Key or something in place of DVD drive.
After all, that PCB is really small inside...

It'll be a hit for people looking to "portabalize" it.

I think is idiotic that you can't install channels on it, yet you still have to go through the channel screen to launch a game.

It should launch games automatically and go to the settings screen if booted without a game in the drive, like the GC.

Some game discs can install their own channels. Mario Kart is one.

Yeah. One can expect a Japanese company's game system to majorly suck in some aspect if they don't see fit to release it for their own country. Gamecube-less Wii, toaster NES cart slot, everything removed from Master System 2...

Don't forget this is Canada exclusive too, so there won't be as much as the SNES Jr, and the NES Top Loader....
