    That's a solid commercial. I liked that a lot.

Fantastic add. I liked it a lot. I bet it won't be shown here in Japan though :(

Legitimate question, how many Xbox ads are shown in Japan, compared to Playstation ones? Also does Japan do that annoying thing where a console maker will hijack an ad for a third party game (like Xbox with EA Sports games or Playstation with Destiny (and others))?

Also: that was a better movie than Pixels.

Will Japan get a telecast of the F1 Italian GP? That's when the ad will be shown.

None. I've never seen a Xbox One add and yes, games that are multi platform seem to only mention the PS4. Sony paying for the add I guess.

As for will the F1 be televised here, hmm, they used to show F1 but if there's no Japanese team or driver they probably won't bother.

F1 used to be telecasted live free-to-air, appears it's now only on pay TV and only coverage that's free-to-air is 1hr of highlights. I wanted to watch the whole race. So I suppose it's like that worldwide it seems.

Exactly what I was wondering about, how many countries have F1 on free-to-air nowadays so they could actually show the ad?

    Well, there's McLaren-Honda.....*pfft* ahahahahahaha!

Well it seems Fox Sports has the rights to the F1 now, so free-to-air stations possibly partner or buy the footage they want to chop up and talk over. I wouldn't be sure if the commercial will be shown during the highlights. I'll record the highlights and check it out. However I doubt it.

I think it's rather stupid to have sport like this on pay TV only, it narrows the audience down so much. Having to pay $50 a month to watch the F1 sometimes is a major drag.

Considering the history between Microsoft and Sega, it was a little disheartening to see Namco get two references, yet the likes of OutRun, Virtua Racing, Daytona USA or Sega Rally don't even get a fleeting mention in this otherwide broad racing game nostalgia trip... Also, how come there wasn't anything from more recent contemporaries such as The Need For Speed, Burnout or Gran Turismo? Despite my complaints, it's great to see developers - or at least their advertising agencies - willing to tip the hat once in a while and give credit where it's due, since Forza is merely the latest evolutionary step in a genre that now has just as much pedigree as the automotive industry such titles are increasingly representing in the virtual domain.

F1's drop in ratings does pretty much correspond with the move to pay TV. $50 a month? Ouch, even though that is Australian dollars.

You really expect them to mention Gran Turismo, Forza's direct competition?

Maybe they denied it, who knows really what the approach was with the commercial and their companies. The only thing that this commercial is showing, is the leap in detail. Not racing in a genre really. Ridge Racer, R.C Pro Am etc are not racing sims, and never attempted to be. How I see it anyway.

Can't see reducing the exposure would help with ratings at all. Barely anyone has cable in this country it's not the 90s anymore where it was affordable.

Cable is constantly advertised day in day out, with no real attraction to own it... How it works is, you buy a base package (whether you like it or not, you're going to either have a kids base, docos base and another crap base which all being $25. Then you buy a premium pack on top of that, the premium being sport, drama, and movies I think, they're $25 also. There would be a lot more takers (including me) to own cable just for sport coverage, as I like Indy, NASCAR, and F1. So in total you're spending $25 for no reason on top of the $25 you want to spend. It's a major clusterfuck.

Now all they need to do is add some of those Tracks/Cars to the game. That is some DLC I would pay for.

I'm a firm believer in the concept that there's nothing wrong with a little acknowledement, friendly competition or light mocking of your immediate rivals - Sega had this down to a fine art in their '90s era advertising campaigns (Blast Processing, Genesis Does What Nintendon't, PlayThing, Pretendo, etc)...

I only recall of Microsft and Sega relationship being during the times of Dreamcast and the original Xbox, and the Xbox case was pretty much during its early life.

They wanted to attract people from the very old times, especially when it comes to games that were an revolution for its time, NFS and Burnout would be seen as just an evolution, not something like Ridge Racer that was one of the first total 3D racing games with texture mapping.

That Ridge Racer reference really hit me. Ended up playing some Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution for a couple of hours.

It only made me realize how i miss the real NAMCO. :(

Ha, even the song is kind of a blast to the past. I do love the idea of the commercial, although it seems a bit watered down in respect to what it could've been. I mean, they had a whole minute and a half, I'm sure they could have crammed in maybe 3-5 more references to even out the past-present time line they were going for.
