Yes, ebay reseller can buy new copies indeed. But we can't totally blame LRG, as they need their money back to prepare the next physical release. I haven't heard about the signed Saturday Morning RPG, they are very nice ! I also hope that the signed ones goes to collectors ! Haha
That's as good as a link. Don't do it. If you hadn't noticed, the buttons on a PSone aren't grey. Technically speaking, that makes it custom. It's not an extortionate price, either. I don't really see much shame in this sale - sure, it's not enhanced the console, but it's not terrible and it's not a rip-off.
I wouldn't have thought so, I don't recall the fat ps1's ever including writing on the buttons. The power button just used the standard scientific symbols like in the picture below. The buttons also look slightly shinier and darker than normal to me but to be fair I've never personally owned a PSOne, or even used one I think. At a guess I would say that they had been varnished or something, possibly with nail paint. Duly noted, sorry about that.
The SCPH-750X and earlier have "POWER", "RESET", and "OPEN" written on the buttons, at least on US units. I think it's only the post-750X units that have the symbols on the buttons but I could be wrong.
I've just done a quick google search and I think you're right. That console seems to have both text and the symbols on it though and I think they were mutually exclusive on everything but the PSOne.
So you did - I missed that! Interesting, isn't it? They look like an original's buttons... but are they too big?
I'm pretty sure that they are the same sized buttons and whatever they were coloured with is making them look bigger. There's a close up image here with the lid open and it doesn't look like the lid has been dremelled or replaced in any way, only that some type of lacquer has been applied to it. The same seller seems to mostly deal in custom painted retro consoles as well, for example his other listings include this Xbox.
They probably looks bigger as the psone main block is smaller (some kind of optic illusion ?). I should try to compare both, but I am pretty sure that this is what he did Ebay all of shame or not, this auction has made us learning something new haha This xbox looks much more better !
Some of his work (assuming it is his) is actually quite impressive. I'm not usually into custom consoles but one gamecube that he has in particular is a work of art.
Yeah, I actually dig the dark green paint job for the Halo console, I don't think there was ever an opaque one that wasn't black (except the Mountain Dew one and the orange one I think)
Can confirm about imported items at least. Cost $50 to ship a 1001 PS1 console only to Australia, and that was dirt cheap. If I wanted faster and better shipping it would have been $120 in shipping costs alone, just for a PS1.
1,000,00 for a Gold Taco Bell PS4? No fucking way dude. I wouldnt even pay that much for the 20th anniversary PS4. The clear PS1 is also pretty overpriced imo.
