So I finally bought a Dreamcast (after 2 years owning Shenmue, silly me), but I don't happen to have any AV cable and since I am planning to do the internal VGA mod soon I haven't planned on buying any. And so today I disassembled the unit and soldered a male RCA directly to the composite video pin (13), I only soldered the inner thread of the RCA, the one that carries the signal and then I covered the ground one with some tape (everything was pretty clean, nothing bridged). I reassembled the console, plug it into a flatscreen and no image, tried with a CRT as well and completely black screen, not even some noise or interference. Perhaps I'm missing something quite basic here and someone can help me out. Thanks in advance!
You need to also solder the ground, otherwise the signal won't go into the signal wire. Think of an electrical circuit as a closed circuit of plumbing. If you clog/solder-shut a pipe, there's no way the current will flow.
Well, that turned out to be quite simple, so I guess now I'll just have to solder the outer RCA thread to pin 1. Thanks a lot -=FamilyGuy=-
