Cute little find at a Junk Store

    I was at a Junk store and found these two SGI Indy R5000 workstations. No hard drive or memory unfortunately (and not a N64 dev station), however I did notice one thing.

    If anything it's a cute find for $6 each heh.

    50pin SCSI and 72pin SIMMs should be cheap to find. Can you take a picture of the front panel and rear panel?

    It shouldn't be too hard to get it booting - one of the nice things about the Indy is that it uses a standard PS/2 mouse and keyboard rather than the old custom SGI ones.

    Biggest hassle would be finding the 13W3 cable and a sync-on-green monitor.

    For that price, it's definitely worth it just as a piece of curiosity. I wish I could snag stuff like that!

    Great find. Parts are available, monitors aren't too hard to come by, OS isn't a problem. Beware though - those cases are real crap - treat them with kid gloves if they're still in good condition!

    Not useless at all. I've been looking for an Indy for some time, but the market in the UK has dried up... and importing is just too expensive nowadays. Most of the time, those who have them either side of the pond are those recycling centres who think things are worth loads of money.

    Yeah the cases are pretty crappily made. They look nice though.

    I actually went back the other day and found another one. Plus found the hard drive they took out of it (still hasn't been formatted, so I'm going to check that later) and a floptical drive.

    Yeah, looks like a regular floppy drive..handles the regular 1.44MB ones and 22MB ones or something.
