Pretty much. It bothers me he had to deliberately smash it.

 

The trick is to move the phone rapidly back and forth over the top of the magnet.
That's erases the memory chips. Even a credit card can withstand being moved slowly though some impressively strong magnetic fields.

 

Stopped at the first one after the guy was pouring sand on it. @_@
