I tried this, it doesn't let me create a directory there.

I tried many versions of Multiman, the only one I could get to run on it was version "multiMAN BASE (DEX) v04.18.00" an extremely old version.

With it, I tried to copy a game to the hard drive, after it had finished moving all the files, I checked FTP and it didn't even appear in there. Because it's supposed to create a "GAMES" directory, and it can't do that without file permissions it seems.

    It is not for sale.

I only want to fix this file permissions problem.

I know a few other memebers picked up the prototypes. Do they have same permissions on there games directory? Do their firmwares match yours?

The ones I heard that got one, they already sold theirs on. So I don't think they even checked.

Stock PS3 firmware (retail/Debug or Tool) does not allow you to create folders in the games directory directly . This has nothing to do with the hardware. The way a regular developer would create a directory under the games folder is to create and install a package file. Once this directory is created using the package, then you can modify the contents of this sub directory to your hearts content.

    Thanks.

I'm just gonna get a regular dex PS3 instead and just keep the prototype in my collection.

You can also use the bd emulator function with an external hdd.

Just a fair warning, unless the PS3 DEX can downgrade to 3.55 you will be stuck with the same issue. At 3.55 custom or modified DEX firmware allows relaxed permissions. Again it's the software not the hardware that is the cause.

But as Jackhead has indicated there are ways to run games not stored on the internal hard drive, though they are not as convenient. Another technique is to map the app_home device to files on your PC.

I tried a bunch of those methods of running game backups and I couldn't get any of them to work.
So I'm just gonna leave it as it is and get a regular modded console.

I've just been using a CEX for the past year or so

Again, thanks for all the help.
