It seems that the forum software is configured so that it's impossible to modify a post after a few minutes. (30 I think, from shoutbox discussions) This is highly impractical for such a website. Marketplace threads require frequent edits of the first post, as to update the asking price, saying something is sold, etc. Also software release thread or similar ones need to be editable long after they're created to update links, description, etc. I think that allowing one to edit his own posts anytime should be the standard, as it has been for years on this board without any problem. If edits abuse is a concern, then an history of the edits for each post could be an idea, but I think the current locking of posts is impractical and counterproductive. Thank you! FG
In addition, on popular downloads users don't want to spend their time backtracking through pages of replies to find the latest version. The 30 minute edit rule shouldn't apply to the very first post in the topic, so the user can still update it with important info.
Cant edit my sales thread. Also rules state only 3 sales thread, but if you cant edit original posts - how is that manageable? Why not just allow editing, but set it so you can see edit history? You can usually enable that on any decent forum software. No idea what Xenforo offers, as seems a pretty obscure choice.
If its an issue even just setting it so that the creator of the thread can atleast update the first post on the thread that would be extremely useful. Especially for Sales threads or project threads like Benny's.
I think the edit history is a nice compromise. This way it blocks edit abuses and allows the same flexibility as before. This is a mature community, there should not be a need to enforce such an important restriction.
I agree with everyone else on this thread. Even on collection's thread, sometimes I like to update the first post but to try to keep this more organized. Anyway editing any post and not only the first post of a thread would be great.
I also need the edit button on some older threads, mainly for updating pictures or links that have been dead.
