Golle gee. looks like someones gonna be doing the towel trick tonight ;D lmfao seriously though, if it hasn't been said enough already.. leave it, you don't have to play it to enjoy it, enjoy it with your eyes mate its a xenon board correct? hell. if you really want to play it again, and i mean REALLY want to, try to remove the warranty without fucking it up (not sure if possible) and swap a better board, falcon-jasper preferably, but i guess that REALLY deminisihes the value huh :/ .. poo EDIT: Oh wait, hdmi boards dont fit in xenon cases. well lather me in milk and slap me, my mistake, Forget i said anything.
he can get a opus board, rare though. that will fit in maby its easier too reball it your self, i too replace it with a opus or a xenon motherboard.
I haven't rummaged around inside a 360 in years. Might be fun with access to so much information and friendly people to offer advice.
Im sure surgeon and i would be MORE then happy to help bring a launch team 360 back to life! there are so many methods to bring this thing back to life man. if you ever get it open, the CHEAPEST method, is to First: Remove the fans, and let the CPU/GPU heat up, reflowing the solder joints. THEN: remove the heatsinks and apply arctic silver 5 thermal paste. THEN: apply Falcon-Jasper heatsinks to it, that's literally the greatest method if your on the cheap, and trust me, it works magic, don't be scared about this "towel trick" type method, the ONLY reason this doesn't work for more then 4-5 days is when the people who do it, don't replace the thermal paste, which makes it go right back to RROD in no time IF you replace the thermal after reflowing the board, it WILL last
Yeah I did the new thermal paste method a couple times many years ago. Only problem is it never lasted. I still have some of the extra heat sinks and stuff lying around. Ok now I am curious as hell about all the different options. The warranty seal on it looks kinda trashed anyway and I actually just bought a working xenon 360 for donor parts and what not. I will open it up after I buy anything else I need.
I'd say if you switch the heatsinks, you should probably just change the GPU One. In my opinion the Original CPU heatsink was a lot better, since it did have that copper pipe running through it. I'd probably also increase the fan speed to keep it a tad bit cooler!
I want to agree, though from testing, i have found that the falcon CPU sinks get a 5-10% increase in heat reduction but its up to you haha
uhm sory for interupting the repair helping etc. but if you want it too make at least get it reflowed or reballed by a pro. dont use the overheating stuff, because it will brake it. it can last, but it will break again.
Well 0102 is typically dried out thermal paste. Not necessarily a reball-warranted issue. Personally, I would say carefully disassemble the console, go to Fry's and get some artic silver 5 and replace the thermal paste.
Frys didn't have artic silver 5 so I got antec formula 7. I'm disassembling it tonight and starting a new thread so I can get input as I go.
mate, ill pay you 5.60CAD if you ship me enough Thermal paste to cover my CPU and GPU on my devkit XD we don't have any "frys" out here in calgary -.- uhg
Yeah last time I went there they were sold out then too. I guess a popular location for Xbox repairs.
